Hi I just got my corn snake a few days back
I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out on the size of food I should be giving him. He is between 2-3 years old so I'm assuming pretty much fully grown, the person I got him from gave me a short feeding record with him and when I fed him today I gave him the same sized meal as was on the record ( 1 rat fluff) however when he ate it you could see no bulge, it was as if he hadn't just eaten
So my question is does that sound like the right sized meal for him ? I just always thought you would see that he had just been fed ?
Thanks and any hints and tips for a new owner would be greatly appreciated. I have done some research but a lot of it contradicts each other  |

First off hi and Welcome.  If we could have pictures it would help greatly as all corns can vary very much in size but generally most people feed corn snakes mice not rats (something to to do with protein i believe?) and by how old she is and the size of a rat pup without it leaving a bump i would say she would want to be on small or medium mouse but again will need to see pictures..the general rule is that the prey should be no more than 1 and half times the thickest part of the snake. Hope this helps:)
and in regards to hints, tips and information this forum really is a godsend for new owners so just have a good mooch around also the care sheets on here really are useful but ask any question you need to we all just want to help :)

| Hi and welcome, i am not sure of the size of a rat fluff, but size of snake would be helpful, but at a rough guess the at the way Kellogs is going at that age id be giving a large mouse every 10 days, but i would also wait till someone better than me for advice! |

Hi thanks I'm having a good look around just now but am being easily distracted by all the pictures of beautiful snakes
This is the best pic I have just now and most likely won't be much use

| I would say she would be on a large from that picture but its hard to tell, like i said as long as its no bigger than 1 and half times the thickest part it should be fine sure lots more people will be along shortly with more advice |

I think it depends where you get your frozen food from as to what the equivalent is. Most rat fluffs vary quite a lot, usually between 11 and 25g, so to stay in this weight range, you could feed small, medium or (small) large mice. However I think rats are normally thicker around than a mouse so I would be inclined to go for a large mouse instead of rat fluffs.
Again, as long as you stick to the rule of no thicker than 1.5times the thickest part of the snake, it should be fine. |

Thanks guys
Will change over to large mice as the rat fluff was not even as thick as the largest part of Flump. Just wanteds to make sure he was getting enough :) |
