Like the title says, my mouse delivery from RSR wasn't frozen when it arrived. No dry ice left and most of the mice defrosted (but very cold still).
They are in the freezer now but will they still be okay to use or are they ruined because of it? How can I tell if they are still good?
Also, they were sent in ziplock type bags not vacuum packed like I expected them to be. The large pinks were just inside what looked like food bags double bagged and some of them even have wood shavings and poop inside :S This doesn't seem very nice or look very professional to me. Is it normal? Or is this something I should be writing to them about?

Mine only ever come in ziptop bags from who I use never vacum packed that will just add to the cost.as for condition they won't stay frozen generally though a long as they are still cold to the touch an isn't excessive amounts of blood coming from nose there OK. Look on the suppliers website they normally have a bit about what they should be like an what to do if your not happy with how they are.

My order arrived defrosted, what do I do?
It is not uncommon for orders to arrive a little soft or with floppy tails, this is nothing to worry about as long as they are still icey cold to the touch - these rodents are perfectly fine to be placed in the freezer. When assessing your order, the key warning sign to look for is excess blood around the nose and/or in the bag. Excess blood indicates that the food has spoilt and should be discarded.
In an instance when you think your order has spoilt you need to take a photograph the day it arrived showing the condition of all spoilt rodents. Once you've taken the photo please place them somewhere to preserve their current condition (we usually recommend sticking them in the freezer away from other frozen food) and email the photos over to us. We'll take a look at the photos, verifying whether they have spoilt or not. Once we've done that we can either issue a refund or a replacement, depending upon what you'd prefer. |

Thanks for such a fast reply.
They were cold to the touch but soft as if defrosted. Some of them have blood coming from the nose, mostly the fluffs and a couple of smalls. How much is excessive? Should I just bin the ones with blood coming from them or is the whole bag ruined?
I can't find anything on RSR website about defrosted orders, it just says "All frozen food orders are packed in an insulated box with dry ice and should still arrive frozen, but please remember we cannot accept responsibility for orders placed via UK Mail Courier if they do not! this is not a guaranteed service".
Ugh, really wish I'd forked out that fiver more for a guaranteed delivery time! £50 of mice, fiver extra isn't much really. Ah well, live and learn. |

Tbh as long as they were still nice an cold to the touch an the blood from nose was only staining fur an not dripping I'd still use them.

Frozen foods must be ordered as 'before 12 am' delivery, where this has not been selected unfortunately we cannot accept any responsibility for defrosted items, usually they will get there just fine on 'next day' delivery however sometimes it just isn't within our control to keep those vans moving as speedily as we would like! Once frozen food or livefood has been sent we cannot accept it back, these are perishable items and the act of returning them will ultimately lead to their spoiling or perishing. As above if your order has arrived late for any reason please contact us and we will do whatever we can to assist you depending upon the situation. |

I should have selected the before 12 am delivery. It arrived at half past one which isn't a whole lot later than it could have been if I had done the before 12am. But apparently that 1.5 hours was enough  The OH was at home to pick it up and put it into freezer and he said they definitely weren't frozen but they were cold to the touch.
There is quite a lot of moisture (which has now frozen) on the inside of the bags which I guess is from them defrosting and one or two of the pinkies look like their bellies are swollen up which I may have to bin. I have a couple of days before my next feed is due to decide which to keep/use. Tempted to try defrosting a swollen belly pinkie and see what happens. Will it burst? Eugh.
I might chuck the ones with lots of blood as there are one or two which seem to have dripped. I hate wasting them but I don't want to risk making my snakes ill. Ugh, really kicking myself. |

Mine are always in ziplock bags from there, someone the dry ice all gone but mice still cold and hard in center, tails and outer limbs a bit defrosted but thats fine. Bloody noses are common too but I expect that is the same with all frozen food suppliers. I guess it depends how much you order, I order about 60-80 mice from them at a time so stuff is always what is considered frozen. If you order a small amount and small mice, they more defrosted they will be.
I never go for the before 12am option, as I always get my deliveries between 9 - 1 from them.
Can you take pics? I once had one single bag one 25 small mice from them delivered to me, as they forgot it in my main order so posted in next day! They were defrosted, cold to touch, all had bloody noses bt they were munchable. |

I ordered about 250 mice but 150 of them were pinkies... A lot of them weren't even frozen in the centre because they were squishable, still cold though. They arrived at 13.30, so not too long after midday anyway.
I'll see if I can get some pictures of the worse looking ones (I think some of the smalls were the worst tbh). I have vacuum packed the others which didn't look too bad to me 
I redefrosted a couple of the worst pinkies to see how bad they were and they looked fine to me so have kept the rest (binned the three which had been defrosted twice).
I just don't want my snakes getting ill so maybe I have been a bit overly cautious. They still look better than p@h mice! I dread to think how many times theirs have defrosted and been frozen again.
EDIT:
Okay, here are the pictures of the smalls I had thrown away. They don't actually look as bad as I thought they did. They're defrosted now and obviously I won't be using them but it is good to know what is okay and what isn't for the future.
Anyone of a sensitive disposition look away now...

They look kind of similar to yesterday but this is after their second defrost I guess, since they arrived quite defrosted. I only chucked them a few hours before taking the pictures so they haven't been defrosted long.
They didn't look quite as wet yesterday so didn't look quite so bloody but otherwise pretty similar I think. It's the amount of blood that bothered me and the one on the right has a swollen looking chest/abdomen which worried me a little. They just smell of mouse, not nasty or anything. Would you say I was right to chuck these ones or just being overly cautious? |

| This has made me realise that the quality of the mice I buy is excellent. I wasn't to sure before reading this. I would not be impressed if I ordered mice and they looked like that frozen or defrosted. |

I have bought the A & N frozen mice and rats as well and they are just as good. I have not used the delivery service for Kiezebrink so can comment on this. I live close enough to be able to collect in person. |
