I'm new to all this. So please be patient with me
My reptile 15W UV bulb has blown. So I have now put a standard GLS 45w bulb in to replace it for now. Is this safe ?
I have thought of putting a 15w energy bulb in, but not sure if this would give the same light / or sufficient heat for the little fella
Also anyone know where there's a good cheap place online to get a digi thermometer ?
Would appreciate all help and advice. |

You say reptile bulb, not sure exactly what you mean. If you want to use a UV light to heat the viv then you will need a dimming thermostat and the wattage will depend on viv size, you will also need to check the UV output, nothing more than 2% is required for corns. Energy saving bulbs will not give the heat output required. |

Thanks for the help. So can I use a standard 45 w bulb made for a bedside lamp? As I know these give off good heat, although it will be hard to monitor. I have heat mat, but have to wait until tuesday for the thermostat to arrive. So just trying to keep the correct heat for the little fella |

I wouldn't use any form of heating without being able to control it, also remember for any form of light heating you will need a dimming stat as a mat or pulse stat will make the light constantly flash. I would turn off all heating until your stat/stats arrive. |

I found this on 888: http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productdetails.php?ProductID=7075&ProductGroupID=2932 I don't have any experience with it so can't vouch for its accuracy, but it's dual-probe and fairly cheap. Of course ''cheap'' isn't a word you really want to focus on where your snake's health is concerned, but this may give you somewhere to start looking

Advice taken. Thank you both. |
