                      | I have found a mark on Rogue and don't know what it is - Also I have found a cut on him. I am going to take him to the vets tomorrow to get checked over and just wondered what you guys think about it.
He seems fine, im just worried.
I have cleaned out his viv - removed anything sharp or even remotely sharp and put newspaper down as his substrate for now. The only thing I found in his viv that was likely to have caused him harm is an Exo Terra Crocodile Skull that I bought after looking for something to decorated his viv with and saw it was "suitable for snakes and other reptiles or amphibians". I will be writing a complaint after this.

Where would be the best place to take him tomorrow? I live in Huddersfield.

 Thanks guys.

The cut is the obvious pics, the other pics show the dodgy looking scales

                      | Ouch. Poor snake. Huddersfield is a little far from me but I take my snakes to a vet in Leeds who deals with reptiles. It is called Hollyhead. They have been very good and have heard lots of good things about them. |

                      | Yea after looking more closely at the skull there are sharp bits on it and I think he went through a hole, then tried to back up out of it and thats when it probably happened :( |

                      | It makes me angry how many reptile/ aquarium hides and ornaments have some very sharp bits on them. I got a shedding cave that looks like it's made of many layers of fake stone- some bits were so sharp, I cut myself on it. Spent ages sandpapering the sharp bits off. Aquarium ornaments are even worse. I now check any hides I buy and sand any sharp bits off. I thought I was being over cautious... |

                      | I noticed in my fake stone cave I got him - on the inside roof there are bits flaking off where there were probably air bubbles in the resin and its leaving sharp edges.
Im thinking of sanding it a bit then putting a 1mm thick layer of silicone on it to prevent more falling off, what does everyone think?

That's what I would do, it amazes me how many of these cast resin products do have sharp edges on them, I've looked at loads of things ( not bought yet) and they always have sharp edges, so dissappointing, as I know they could be made better, yep If I was you get some sandpaper or rounded file and gently smoth the edge down, then smooth some aquarium sealant over the edge, I've not looked at your pic yet, but I hope snakey will be ok :)

                      | Well I just got back - excellent people at the vets. Rogue is fine he was given an antibiotic injection and I have some cream for him, I also have some stuff to add to water and bathe him in. He had to be put under anesthetic (£60 :O) as he didnt enjoy the vet touching him as he is in shed, he wasn't when I made the appointment tho, and he went mental.
All is good tho :) and will be ringing Exo Terra now to tell them what has happened and see if they will do anything about it.

                      | Glad he's ok. Wouldn't like to count the nicks I have had just picking things up in the petshop. It does seem as if the quality of some hides etc.are not up to scratch |

                      | Glad to hear your snakes on the mend. Beautiful morph that one. My Carolina has a scar down her back, which she had when I got her. I wonder what may have caused that and if that was a spikes ornament |

                      | i think at the very least you should be able to get exo terra to pay the vet bill....tell them you will be consulting a litigation solicitor and see what they say.... good luck, and hopefully snakey will heal quickly

                      | well I rang exo-terra and the woman I spoke to basically said its impossible that anything they sell could have cut a snake and that I was to send it back for investigation :/ I am going back to the vets to show her the skull and get her to write a report basically saying that she believes it to be the skull, blah blah blah. Then send that, the skull, the bill, the postage bill and the photos of Rogue etc to exo-terra and see what they say.
If nothing comes of it I will probably look at seeing a solicitor.

                      | you may also find this company helpful as they actually own exo terra which you may or may not know.
 Rolf C. Hagen (UK) Ltd.
 California Drive Whitwood Industrial Estate,
 Castleford WF10 5QH,
 West Yorkshire
 01977 556622

the web site is http://www.hagen.com then just click onto the europe map then onto the uk one to get to their home page.then on the contact page you can send them a query about your product. if you go into the cant find an answer section you can email them direct. i had a few questions about some of their products last year and found them very helpful and going straight to them was better than getting passed around by exo terra.

 hope this helps.

                      | Quick update. I got nothing out of exo-terra and cant afford a solicitor to take it further. Rogue is doing fine although he does still have them greyish scales (told they are snakey bruises) and the cut is still there. He hasnt shed as much as I would have expected to say he is injured (I thought they shed more to heal) I think he has only shed once since I wrote this topic. Apart from that he is perfect :) |
