This is my new girly, she is HUUUGE compared to my other snakes! I think she's about five foot? Not too sure. But she's adult size. Her name is Venus and she is a CB08 Hypo 66% possibly het for T+ Albino (we shall see!) Nicaraguan Boa, bred by John Berry and bought from bladeblaster over on RFUK.

I'm so pleased with her, she's a beautiful girl, very tame but very strong! Hopefully going to pair her to my T+ Albino male nic and see if she's het for T+, and then hopefully (fingers crossed) produce some Nicaraguan T+ Sunglows!

Some pictures of her, and of her meeting her boyfriend for a minute or so:

Halp!!!

On my little sister-->

And having some noms

Thanks for looking

Thanks They are! I've convinced a friend to get a boa and a corn snake, the corn from me as an intro to snakes (from the babies I've bred) and the boa from me when they are hopefully born sometime in feb (haven't actually seen any courting yet xD).
He's completely in love with boas.

You REALLY need to follow a very strict quarantine on all snakes but Boids in particular. They are beautiful snakes and you want to keep them that way. Mites, RI's are minor things to consider, the big one is IBD, it will wipe out an entire collection and you'll not have any idea you've introduced it into your collection until its too late and you're having the whole lot of them euthanised rather than watch them suffer a very slow and painful death. Not trying to scare anyone its just very important we all do our best to stop this horrible disease from spreading.

I didn't realise it was nescessary to be as strict. I'll keep watch on her and make sure she has no contact with the others for two weeks? Is this enough time? I feel terrible with her contact with my other snake now. He met her a week after I bought her, and she has no visible illnesses. But still. Thanks.

Lovely addition, Terry has got some cracking snakes (i might have to have one of his many carpets)
Have to agree with Bob with the quarantine, I leave mine in quarantine for 2 months but some people say longer but I think 2 months is long enough for anything to show up.

3 months is the standard quarantine but I would double that for Boas as they can carry IBD with very few early symptoms.

When I bought my Boa I wasn't fully aware of the risk either, I quarantined the snake but in the same room, always handling it last but found out that even that might not have been enough,. I got lucky I suppose. I have my newest snake still in quarantine since March (he was almost free and he got sick, a mild RI, quarantine reset from when he got better) in a completely different room as it should be. Its a bit of a pain having him so far away from all the snake equipment but worth it to keep all safe.

In another room? I'm not sure if I can do that, she's in a 4x2x2 viv that will be underneath two other vivs. Plus there's not any room in other rooms. Instead, I'll not handle her without using F10 hand scrub before and after, and ensuring that she doesn't touch anything else while I'm handling her. I'll do this for three months I think, I know you said double, but she hadn't shown any symptoms with her previous owner and he said that she was very healthy. Any other precautions I should take without removing her from the room? At the moment the only other snakes in there are my female corn and her four hatchies, and they're at the opposite end. The other two boas and my male corn will be joining her in their vivs in a week or so when my closet is finished being built and the new electrics are put into the wall.

You can only do the best you can do, nobody would expect more. I would leave any snakes not in that room where they are at the moment and quarantine in that way. I know its a faff, and if all goes well you will feel it was a massive waste of time but that's a good thing, that's the best case scenario. My little house snake developed an RI while in quarantine, It was mild and was caught and treated very quickly, I would have hated that RI to spread to the others.
