You will need a digital thermometer and a thermostat |

The heat mat should cover approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of the floor space of the viv. So for your vx36, the 20watt heat mat should do nicely.
A thermostat will control the temperature for you, I would suggest the habistat thermostat. Like this one:
http://www.swallowaquatics.co.uk/1180/products/habistat_mat_stat_thermostat_100w.aspx
You plug the heatmat into the stat and the stat into the mains. The stat has a probe which you put on the heatmat. You can set the temperature on the stat and it will keep the heatmat as close to that temperature as possible. However the heat setting on thermostats is often a little incorrect (pretty stable, but not quite right) so a digital thermometer is a must to monitor the heat of your heatmat. Just put the probe from the thermometer on the mat with the probe from the thermostat
Hope that helped |
