Well, it's like this. I'd gone to a pet shop ( not my favourite local one, another ), and saw a beautiful amel female corn snake, about 2 - 3 years old. Amel wasn't on my wish list ( unless it's a stripe ), but this particular one is beautiful, very orange and red, clean colours.. and a very sweet to handle. It's on offer, very cheap - half price of the other corns, even cheaper than a new hatchlings. But it's not the price, it's the snake itself, there is just something about her, she is so beautiful and I've really taken to her. I asked why's she so cheap, and they said they've too many and want to shift them. (?)
I'd really like her, but am slightly suspicious about the very low price - I'm worried she might be possibly ill ( she looks in a stunning condition though, better than many other snakes in the shop, no RI,, no mites, lovely scales, clean vent, good weight ) or have been in contact with ill snakes. It's also a female, sharing cage with a male - so very likely will be pregnant. I asked the lady, if , in case she's pregnant, they'd take the eggs or the babies, and she said yes.
So now I can't stop thinking about about the snake. I'd gone back and it was still there...
Hubby is not happy about it at all, so that's another side to it, too.
I just wish I could give her a good home. It's not just a whim , either, I'd seen several snakes I seriously wanted, and never got, one is the goldust in my favourite shop...he's still there, too.
But I can't stop thinking about the amel girl.

that was how I ended up with Jinx, saw him fell in love and had to have him! Nearly didnt get him due to funds but my nanna saved the day!! Am sure your o/h would come to terms with it (mine and my mum did!)
Its good to be suspicious as at least that way your less likely to go in blind. They could be genuine in wanting to get her sold, i would imagine even on matinace feeding she'll cost more than a hatchling along with taking up more room therefore the longer they have her the less profit they make on her.
Good luck with what ever you decide :-)

If she looks healthy and you can't find anything obvious....... Does it seem like a good shop, surely they wouldn't sell an animal that they knew had something wrong with it? Maybe adults aren't so easy to sell in a shop and if you're that drawn to her.. well I know what I'd be doing but I don't have to get anyone's approval so it's easy for me

Thanks, everyone. I'm normally very sensible, when it comes to NOT buying animals, as much as l like them.. however, I had already tested my hubby's patience by getting Little T in January....
I know very well I can't have ALL the snakes I like, so that's what always held me back. With this one, I mainly worry, that if there was something wrong with her, my other two could potentially end up ill. ( I would quarantine her, of course ), and if she's pregnant, she'd have the eggs just as we're due to go away for christmas, so she'd have to be on boarding ( and I want to hatch the eggs myself )...there are so many arguments against, but still.... I might just go and have another look, if she's still there.

Still, I like your thinking, eeji. :-) I shall remember it!

Ness, it's not - how would I put it - very knowledgeable shop...so I take it the snake would be bought "as seen ". Hence the worry.

buy her! about a year ago I fell in love with a cali king snake in a pet shop,in my head I had named her and everything and really really wanted her, the only thing putting me off was the times we had handled her in the shop she was really aggressive and I wanted to be sure I could handle her. I thought about it for weeks and kept going to the shop and when I finally made up my mind to buy her...she had gone :( I was gutted and I still wonder now where she ended up!

So if your gut instinct tells you you like an animal then just go with it! x

Stopit, Katie :-) - as if I need encouraging. Then again,I should know there'll hardly be anyone on here saying " don't do it" ;-)
I won't be able to get to the shop till next week ( work etc. ), but will go then, and have another look, if she's still there...must stop this.
