Hi Guys,
I have a few month old corn (and a ball python, which i'm guessing the answer will be the same) and is due a feed tomorrow.
The issue i have is starting tomorrow i am having a new kitchen fitted (snakes are in the living room), heat is not an issue as there will be back-up power provided by the workmen, my concern is the potential banging and drilling stressing the snakes and possible regurge. This work is due to go on for a few days, would advise i feed them tonight with 12 hours of peace or leave it completely until the house is back to normal noise levels?

| Well they won't here the noise but will feel vibrations. If you are worried that it may stress them just wait a few days unti the workmen have gone. I don't think that noise is likely to cause a regurge unless you have to handle them for some reason. |

| Personally, I would err on the side of cautious and wait until the workmen have gone and things have been quiet (well, vibration free) for a while before feeding them. But I am inclined to worry about things and going a few days without food would be less harmful then if they did regurge a meal but the chances of them doing that are quite slim. I think this is one of those things that your answer will really depend on the owner's choices. |

Cornsnakes are deaf but they do feel vibrations. Royals are famous for not feeding.
Only you know if your snakes are sensitive, i.e won't feed while in shed, new plant throws them etc or if the eat no matter what!
I have a couple that it would really upset and others that couldn't give a damn.
If in doubt I would leave it until all is back to normal. The reason being that a regurge is not good for the snake whereas they will tolerate a long time without food with no ill side-effects.

They are not completely deaf btw, but just have bad hearing in terms of air vibrations. I've heard they hear in a way that is like what we hear when under water. :)

I'm always happy to learn something new.
I was told that snakes are deaf. It's so good that they can hear something, even if it's not top notch!

Cheers Guys,
I decided to hold off for a few days, and a good job too the noise and drilling of stone walls for a rewire was really bad.
Corn didn't seem at all bothered, up at 6PM trying to escape his viv, regular as clockwork. The ball on the other hand was a bit stressed, striking at me when i went to change water and spot clean. I'll leave him alone for a few days to settle down. |
