There is no right or wrong way to do it but I would do things a little different to Auld. I would get him on rats as soon as possible and then once taking rats never feed a mouse again. Coastals are not as bad as say jungles but all carpets can get a taste for mice and be hard to switch over to rats (it will take a hell of a lot of mice to feed an adult carpet). My coastal was not a problem but one of my jungles has been a pain switching over and had a rat for the first time last week since January. I would also feed inside the enclosure and not in a separate tub as the last thing I would want to do is try and move a carpet that is in feeding mode. My carpets will be hanging around most of the time and will take their rats hanging and not let them touch the substrate and as I use large sized orchid bark then even if it does touch (my rats are always fed soaking wet) the chance of ingestion is minimum due to the size of the bark. |

She's currently on mouse fluffs so would you suggest rat pups for a first feed with me? I've ordered some orchid bark as thats what i was suggested when i bought her and ordered some as soon as i got home! because as of tomorrow I'm house ridden for a few weeks because of a knee operation so Internet ordering it is!

She should be fine on a rat pup, carpets will take large prey items so if it looks a bit big don't worry too much about it I am sure she will be fine. Just make sure it is nice and warm before you offer. |

Go for it Donnie. You have never lived until you have picked up a stuffed Carpet from the feeding tub and hoiked him back into the viv. I did when Vambo was on regular feeding with rats. Mice at the moment are just to get the juices going and take a bit of jiggling but when he goes ... he GOES!
Hope to get some decent meat back onto him again after doing well last year. |

Just won a 3ft viv on eBay for £10.50 do you think she's too small or if I fill it with branches and hides she would be ok, she's about foot"ish" in length from a quick glance? Also would you suggest heatbulb or mat?? |

She should be ok in the 3' viv with lots of cover in there. I would go with a ceramic (guarded of course) on a pulse stat as a mat will not bring the ambient temp up at all. |

Same as Donnie but a 100 watt. Remember, will also need a guard for the lamp. |
