This egg popped around a week ago, and started to collapse inwards so I removed part of the shell. I avoided cutting a single blood vessel. All you could see was a large white mass (the yolk) and glimpses of the baby underneath. As you can see, removing the shell has had no negative effect, it is absorbing the yolk as normal and is perfectly alert and very much alive. I thought this might interest anyone who has wondered what happens when the baby absorbs the yolk. I wish I'd taken a pic of it before, it looked very different inside. All the blood vessels have now drawn together around the remnants of the yolk.

As an added disclaimer, I'm not saying 'yay, lets go cut open all our eggs!'. This was one that I considered at the time to have no other option, since the edges of the opening were drying out drastically and curling inwards to such an extent I feared the baby inside might be harmed if it was even still alive...

I've read you can re seal the egg with some kitchen towel ( unprinted, no ink ) - so that it doesn't dry out.... By using kitchen towel, the egg can still breathe, but it also keeps the vital moisture in....

I should have thought about it - I read it ages ago, but I've only just remembered it, when I saw the egg. Looked in one of the old Reptile keeping magazines - there was an article on cutting eggs ( or not ), and hoe to re seal an egg...

Here he is, healthy and happy with some of his siblings (the one on the left). I like how so far he's the only one with his head pattern...

H's a very withdrawn baby, the others are exploring their boxes but this one is just is his toob. Doesn't exhibit the fear of humans to the extent the others do. I'm so happy he's out and in good shape ^_^

He looks pretty good, considering that the egg popped - just goes to show ho tough they are. What a champ! I wonder if they're anery, or caramel?

I think they're just normals. The pic isn't very good, but they're a lot browner than this makes then look, and there is some red in between the saddles. Here's a pic of the other one like this, shows the red a bit better.

I'm so pleased that he made it. He looks like a healthy little hatchie

Just curious, a week ago was he already coloured? One of my eggs that didn't hatch turned out to have a pure white deformed/partly grown hatchling inside and I'm interested to find out when they develop the pigment part.

He had some colour, but only black and white. The belly checkers were fully coloured. The white bit's turned grey about 3 days before he pipped, I have no idea when the red appeared because I couldn't see that part :p

13 now lol, the last 3 eggs still hadn't pipped 5 days after the first so I cut them, 10 minutes after the cut I had one little face peeking out, 2 hours later there's a second face. I don't think the last one actually has a baby in it, couldn't see anything when I candled it before the cut, but we'll see I guess :)
