Okay so this is bugging me. When I got my corn I bought a 'snake accessory kit' from p@h aswell. It contained a heat mat, thermostat, thermometer and some kind of glass panel. At the moment I have the mat stuck to the glass panel (mat had an adhesive side) and it is under his faun. Just curious if this is right. My second question is when I move him into a wooden viv how would I set up the heat mat? Do I just lay it on the viv floor or wall or what?!?! |

Hi Arron,
May be worth you sending the link of the item from P@H, so we can see what it is.
I strongly recommend you don't secure using anything sticky, as it can cause the snake some serious damage (if inside the vivarium). If he/she gets stuck it may rip scales off, causing a lot of upset for you and your new pet.
I recommend you place the heat mat on the floor, then leave it un-secure in the wooden viv. Many people will use a hide to hold it down.
If your unhappy with this you can use silicone (leave snake away from it for at least 12 hours or until there's no fumes). You could also try hot glue.

Okay so I can't find the item online but as I said before it came with like a glass panel which I have the mat stuck to. Thank you for clearing that up. I am happy to just leave it loose on the floor :) |

Just make sure you place it inside the wooden viv when you upgrade, rather than underneath. Sounds silly, but I have a friend who put it under the wooden viv, it burned right through and burned through the carpet into the floor boards. Her Royal was lucky not to be injured o.O |

The vivs that you get as part of the kit from P@H are the Monkfield terrarium - pull it out and have a look at the back where the glass panel is - you will see it is actually specially designed, 2 glass panels with a gap between them - it is this gap where the heat mat is supposed to be slid into. :)
As above, when you upgrade to a bigger viv you will need to put the mat inside on the floor, but the Monkfield terrariums have that excellent 'special feature'.
Also, if you are still keeping the snake in the plastic tub it came in form P@H then I would definitely let it out into the whole viv - those tubs are tiny - one thing in a shop where they have to consider space, but not once you get it home as a pet. |
