Hey all, So now Rummy has been in the viv for over a week, has shedded, pooped and eaten (due to eat again tomorrow). He's active at night but as soon as he sees us he darts into a hide. Should we leave him a little bit longer and just get him used to our presence so he doesn't feel too threatened by that. He likes to hide in the t-shirts I put in there, so is pretty used to my scent now. |

Also to add: Is it okay to remove a hide from him or wait until he's out and about? |

He's going to be very nervous to start off with most are due to how small they are, if you handle him just take things nice and slow should be fine :) |

There is nothing wrong with taking the hide off, with one of mine if I waited for him to be out I'd never see him. Just take it nice and slow and do short sessions, gradually building up the length of time you hold for If you haven't already have a read through this: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28249 |

Most babies are nervous, even tail rattling. But they are just defensive. Imagine if a huge giant tried to pick you up! You may hiss and shake your butt at him too! As with everything else in life, it takes time. Give Rum a chance at getting comfortable. |

I scooped him up out of the t-shirt so it'd be easier to feed him and he was pretty chilled about it. I think perhaps I've been too nicey-nice and worried about hurting him so he got a bit worried? He sat on my hand and I let him on the floor of the viv once he'd calmed so we could feed him, but he'd wrapped his tail around my hand so I had to wait until he had finished eating and headed back to the t-shirt before I could move my hand! |
