Hi All

I was inspecting Willow after her shed yesterday and found a bit of an odd bulge toward the end of her tail. It is not like a retained waste bulge, but is more round and further from the vent (about 5cm away maybe).

It is in the area in which she may still hold waste and I am wondering if it is stretched skin as she did have a massive poo straight after her shed. The bulge itself doesn't seem to be causing her discomfort (she was happy with me touching it) and seems almost hollow or fleshy and isn't hard.

She seems perfectly healthy apart from this, she was very active when i got her out, behaved as normal and took her feed off the tongs as usual. She is currently perched in her branches and isn't hiding away.

Photos below and any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry I have no idea - so my own instinct would be the vets to be honest.

Don't want to worry you but it does look similar to the bulge my Princess had :( Unfortunately she had it when I acquired her and I wrote about it on here.
The X-rays showed lots of little 'stones' and it was thought to be uric acid stones.
Is she eating ok? Does she drink ok?

She eats just fine no problems there. I have never seen her drink, but I have never seen any of my snakes drink so I don't know there. Was the bump soft or hard? This is very soft almost like it is a hollow under the skin.

The uric acid stones can be caused by lack of fluid, it becomes so concentrated it forms the stones. They are tiny but lots of them, the bulge in my snake felt like there was an egg in there, not hard but not really soft either, that bit does sound different to mine. She only ate once in the 3 months I had her and she regurged after 24 hours so technically never ate, that sounds different too. I don't know how long she had had the bulge because the previous owner told me she was gravid (obviously a lie, he probably sold her because she had the lump).
You could try bathing as they absorb fluid that way but I would say take to the vet, an X-Ray was not too costly and at least you will know what it is. How long did it take to appear? and how long has it been there?

Only appeared the other day after her shed, I have just checked her now and it seems a bit less pronounced so I am going to hope it was just stretched skin from a massive poo and give it a couple more days before deciding to go to the vets or not!

I'm not sure if it's the same but I had something similar with Silvi, although I think it was nearer her vent than you are describing. I took her to my nearest reptile shop and they said it was a hernia. Supposedly there was nothing I could do about it, it shouldn't cause a problem and it may just disappear. I hasn't to add that this is the same reptile shop that doesn't even stock thermostats because they don't think they're necessary and when they probed Silvi they said SHE was male. The infertile eggs she laid a couple of months later proved them wrong . I decided to do what you're doing, give it a couple of days and contact an exotic vet if it was still a problem. It did disappear and hasn't reoccurred.

I wouldn't leave it too long before getting it checked out though, just in case....

Well it sounds different to the bulge mine had so hopefully it's nothing. They do their best to worry us don't they!!

Had another look, and seems to be better than it was again, it's still just noticeable. She also decided to poo on me, so no problems there! Lucky I had a towel down!

Glad it seems to be going down....and that you were covered when she decided to poo .

I'd say its a case of keep a close eye and hopefully it'll totally disappear and stay gone .
