Been dying to show you guys my sweet little carolina corn i purchased on 24/01/14, we got him/her from pets at home and the advice they gave us was terrible: no stat, was told to move him/her into a large viv after letting him settle in for 24hrs etc etc, so after having a near miss with a piping hot heat mat i decided to come acquire my knowledge from people who actually keep these beauties and i have to say thanks for the info and tips on keeping him happy and feeling like a snake.
he/she doesn't have a name as of yet but we will name him after he has been sexed, it's also my first snake so i'm kind of timid around him/her and maybe a little too anxious at times.

lovely little guy, it's quite shocking that they didn't mention a stat as I am sure that as part of their own care leaflet it lists the stat as a must have item! At least you have now got that sorted |

S/he is beautiful Jordan . I especially like the 2nd pic. I'm not too surprised by the bad advice, although as LupiLou said I thought P@H were one of the better places for advice, especially where stats are concerned. My local REPTILE shop is adamant that you don't need them . I double check anything I'm told on here.
I'm glad the forum has been helpful to you. If you can't find what you want to know using the search option, then please don't hesitate to ask. We don't bite, much .

That is what is on their website but when I went in there to see if they had any moss and cork bark they told me that I didnt need the moss and they didnt stock it anyway and that the set up of my faun was wrong!
They said that the heat mat should be inside the plastic faun as the snake wouldnt be benefiting fully from the heat and that the stat wasnt necessary nor the digital thermometer so I had wasted money. They didnt know when their babies had last shed and I only asked because one of them looked flaky, this was after my excitement with Sybil.
Glad you went with your gut instinct and got advice from the wonderful peeps on here/fb, they have been nothing but a godsend with helpful advice and praise for a beautiful snake.
Love the picture where s/he is curled up on your thumb and where her/his head is poking out of the aspen lol. |

Thanks for the lovely comments on the snake :) and the hand in the second pic is my gf's hand, pink isn't my colour I'm afraid :p we are having talks about getting an anery stripe to join the mad house because we've just absaloutely fallen in love with these beautiful creatures.
Too lady sybil: I feel your pain, I think it depends on the member of staff you get, we went in to try and find out if our snakes sex was on our account information but they didn't hold thay information about the snake on the record(they couldn't even give me his\her feeding chart from when they had the snake) but the member of staff did ask us about how the snake was getting on and did seem like someone who knew a bit but the guy that sold us the snake on the day even admitted he didn't really like them. P@H does sell spaghnum moss btw we bought a bag of it last time we were in because our snake shed the tail separate last time but from my experience we would rather travel there distance to a reptile specialist shop than take a gamble with average Joe pet shop workers, sadly in this day and age you don't do a job for the love of it so these people could be anybody |

Absolutely gorgeous little snake you have there :) Unfortunately there are always people who are going to give wrong/poor advice - whether the large chain they work for is in agreement or not so it's a great thing to check online first.
As for being timid with your first snake - yep, me too! I went to collect him from a friend who'd been holding him for me and she waited until we'd relaxed, eaten and had a chat before getting him out for me to hold - it was a lot easier that way. The minute I went to hold him once I'd got him home though it was like all my confidence went. Thank goodness mine is a snake that likes to hold on tight to something at all times.
As you build up handling time you build up confidence, don't worry :) |

Congrats on your lovely new addition :)
One of my snakes was from P@H, and I had full feeding records (including a card with stuff on from the breeder!), the sex was on there and sheds were marked as well. I think it's very dependant on which one you go to :( |
