Not quite a reptile - but my little lad is doing so well, I thought he deserved a bit of fame After the sad thread when I lost Lucy, a bit happier one.

Socks, my Arabian, has come a long way from a little gangly foal from sales, getting through his operation for tumor in his chest muscle on his third birthday - he's now turned into a lovely young horse and being ridden

When he first arrived, even a pony headcollar being too big for him:

Friends:

First time ever out on a walk

Growing up

Recovering after the operation

Feeling better :-)

Wearing saddle for the first time

Freshly started

And we're off to explore :-)

He is handsome isn't he!?

Purebred?

Certainly got the Arabian head and stance down... But is he strong headed and stubborn? Lol

He is, indeed, a pure bred. :-)

He came from Exeter market, there was a dispersal sale of an Arabian stud, due to the owner's ill health. He's not strong headed at all, but very intelligent ( too intelligent for his own good - and mine :-) ), and mischievous. He is very brave, and will try his heart out for you - but not if forced - I'd say typical Arabian :-)

He is only a baby yet, got plenty of time to develop that stubborn streak ;)

I miss riding and having a horse. I had a Welsh sec d mare, really red chestnut coat and just gorgeous. Called Snip after her snip... (I think it's a horsey people thing)

I shall live vicariously through you and Socks!

Lol, yep, always waiting what he will come up with next :-)

I love Welshies, they are beautiful but hardy, and got a bit of fire in them, too :-) My Lucy was Welsh sec.D. What happen with Snip, did you sell her?

I can't wait for his stories to appear lol

We housed her at the stables my mum worked at and couldn't afford anywhere locally to stable her when it was sold. The new owners bought her as a teaching horse but I was still able to go up and ride her until they put her in a field that we had told them wasn't suitable unless it was completely overhauled. She broke her leg in a rabbit hole and was completely unridable.
I convinced them to send her up to Aberdeen where there is the horse equivalent of an old folks home where they can live out their days if healthy enough to.

She is/was a fabulous horse, always knew how to avoid you if it was bath time lol.

I learnt to ride when I was about 3, on my mums horse, Sherpa, can't remember what breed he was but dappled grey and 17/18hh. I learnt to ride bareback on that horse and my dad found out how to hold on and not fall off when a horse decides he is going to gallop and not pay attention to the screaming thing on its back, oddly my dad never got on another horse in his life lol
