Hi there, I just wanted to warn all of you on this site that R.E.C.S is a company selling custom made fiberglass vivarium and so far has delivered on NONE of them.
Lots of people on another forum have been fooled into trusting him and have sent him money by bank transfer. I sent him £140 for a viv with the understanding that I would get a 4x2x2 viv within 2-3 weeks. I have been waiting for more than a month now and he has totally disappeared. I have no way to find him or get my money back, yet he is still advertising and possibly trying to make more sales. As I cannot trace him or know if he is now trading under a different name I just felt I would warn anyone on here to be extra careful when paying for a viv by bank transfer. I am not the only numpty to loose money to him. I have been in contact with at least 10 others, some have lost as little as £20 for hides, others as much as £450. Some have been waiting over 4 months for a viv, or a refund.
When he does get in contact or respond on the forums to claims that he is a scammer he is very rude and aggressive. However he also suddenly changes his tactic and apologises and promises to provide refunds etc, claiming that he is over worked, had a flood in his building etc. Everyone then feels sorry for him and gives him a second chance- in this time he gets more business and runs off with more money. Refunds and vivs never arrive as promised.
I know I sound dodgy coming on here out of the blue with this warning. But if you search you will see that many people have been scammed and I feel it is my duty to make people aware of the problem. So please remain vigilant and dont pay by bank transfer unless you have more information to go on then a web site address and a first name and mobile number I know I am a numpty! But please dont be one too! |

Cheers for the heads up.
Although, if done by a bank transfer, you can actually get your bank to reverse the transfer due to scamming.
Much easier to do if paid by card, but I think there's a way by transfer as well.
Ask your bank, they'll be able to trace his, then go to the police. |

Thanks for the warning. A rule I've made for myself and which may be useful to others who like myself are new to snakes:
Before ordering anything snake-related on the internet, I ask here in the forums where to go for that specific item. (I've had recommendation to buy from triple-8, and indeed, they delivered fast, well protected packaging, full customer satisfaction. ) |

I know, it is best to get a good recommendation. Problem is tat he was selling very good looking, inexpensive fiberglass vivs. As I keep mainly humidity loving snakes I was very tempted to take the risk, simply as the deal was too good to refuse. Problem is, the deal was also too good to be true!
i just wanted to put the word out to avoid him for now, at least until he has made good on all his promises, or refunded everyone. But so far he has had loads of time to make good, and has done nothing. |

Thnks for the heads up - it takes guts to admit you've been scammed and to warn other people. So many people keep quiet and let the toe-rags get away with it. |

I'm gonna risk being shot here, but here goes...
I have followed the RECS thread on the other forum but have not been personally affected by it so kept out of it.
However, a viv was delivered last Friday and it may well be that he was overworked etc. I am not defending the guy, nor am I going to criticise. I believe in good customer service and also honesty, but in fairness the "other" thread is also very antagonistic. I can see both sides and think it's only fair that it should be known that some effort (possibly not enough) is being made by RECS.

I agree that it is all very tricky. One viv has recently been delivered. But some people have been waiting for 4 months and have never heard from Chris again. He promised all his existing customers that he would stop taking further orders, but he is still advertising and taking money. He has refused to provide refunds. He also refuses to validate his claims that he is legitimate by providing personal details such as his surname, land line number or home address.
Maybe he is trying to make his business work and maybe he is really behind on orders, but I think people out there need to know about the problems they should expect if they place an order. A 4 month wait for a viv is not acceptable and neither is being shouted at, hung up on, lied to, and ignored when you ask for a refund.
I just think people need to know. As in just one morning I have found people on other forums who have sent him money and never received goods. If he does plan to build our vivs great, but I think until more people actually get their stuff people should avoid doing business with him.
And as he is still taking orders and money I think it is only fair that I let people know that they should be cautious.

Absolutely, and thanks again. Btw, I was not trying ro criticize you earlier on for ordering without recommendation, so sorry if that's how it came accross. What I meant was to give others (specifically new guys like myself) the idea to check here first.
I hope you will get your viv or that the bank will refund like Kehhlyr said earlier on. Please let us know. |

Hi Hawkeye, No I did not think you were having a go at me, so no worries there.
I am glad you appreciate that I am taking the time to inform you of the risk involved in a bank transfer. On the other forum lots of us got shot down for suggesting recs was a scam. So it is hard to have to go out there, and sound like a winey old woman, complaining all the time. But I think it is worth it if it stops just one person loosing money. I think recs has about £1000 worth of other peoples money. So it is a real problem for all of us, and for others who sell stuff on forums. As it makes it hard for everyone when trust becomes an issue.
