i have 13 tarrantula's but getting my very first carolina corns tommorow ive been researching them like mad.i have a tarrantula forum where the advice is spot on so i googled this site and here i am :-) yey

so faunariums what size should i have for a 1ft 6 week old baby corn i think a 18 inch long exo terra is appropriate but what do you guys think.

heat mats with my t's i have the heat mat then the probe from the thermostat on top with a digi thermometer in the enclosure.but with corns dont you have to have the probe in the acual enclosure for the thermostat.what do you think?

i have a warm front room for my t's that dont require a heat mat just a warmer ambient temp.will this be adequate for the non heated end of the faunarium.

finally what type of decs should i put in the cgae i was going to go with cocunut hides i have plenty spare kicking around.do they need a log to climb on really in that smaller enclosure

im looking forward to some great advice from you experts out there.

Hiya and welcome to the forum. Great decision to get some snakies. Looking forward to seeing pics when they have settled.

Sorry if I am reading this wrong but it sounds like you are planning on keeping 2 hatchlings in one tank. It is inadvisable to keep snakes together, especially hatchlings, for many reasons, not least the chance of canibalism. Please have a read of this thread before you get your new babies. It is a bit long winded but well worth a good read. Then you are fully aware of all the risks if you do still chose to keep them together

THATS A DEFINATE NO NO.ive done my studies people say not to house them till there 1 year old but even then i wouldnet do it cos it aint fair on them. the only thing they will be sharing is the heat mat with two thermostats one in each tank

pics will be aposted asap :-)

Sorry for jumping to conclusions. It was the "my tank is warming up nicely now ready for snakes to come home to tommorow " that got me wondering. Tank singular and snakes plural.

I'm looking forward to the pics. I love Carolinas, I think their colours and variety are fantastic.

Hi and welcome,

If you have your little one in a platic RUB or faunarium, the heatmat needs to go underneath the rub covering the floor space approx 1/3 to 1/2. Your stat probe goes on top of the mat with a thermometer inside the faun/rub to measure direct temps that your snake will be exposed to. If you're using a glass viv the mat can go inside with the stat and temp probe on top of the mat.

Your temps the warm end should be between 27.5 min to 30 C max, my cool end usually runs about 23 c and thats room temp.

good luck

As a general rule the size of housing should be the length of snake should = length + width of house. You can use pretty much anything you like to decorate, be careful with living plants there is a thread with those that are dangerous to your snake, but any cardboard eg. cereal boxes, toilet roll tubes etc are fab if they get dirty or wet they can be binned and new put in.

The general rules are "The vivarium should allow a minimum of 1 square foot of floor space to each foot of snake and be approximately a third of the snake’s length in height."

So...a pretty small one to begin with . Your snake will grow fairly quickly, so you may find it more cost effective to go down the RUB (really useful box) route.

I'd buy the large one. It comes with a divider so that you can make it smaller to start with. Then you can take it out once the snake has grown.
