Does the guide feeding a mouse thats 1 1/2 times the fattest part of the snake apply to western hognose? Stevie was on pinkies whe we first got her which were way to small. We doubled on pinkies then moved her to fuzzies. Since eating fuzzies she has gone from 17g to 41g and fuzzies leave no visible bump. It she was a corn I wouldn't hesitate to move her small mice but she is just so short compared to a corn that it has made me wary.
Any advice gratefully received

It takes my hoggies around 3 - 4 months for each shed , sometimes seems longer , but they do look bigger before the shed , especially my females , they are getting a fair size now .

Also the general rule for feeding is smaller more often , mine are fed every 5 days atm . Except for my fasting male who has'nt eaten for 2 months or so .

Can't wait for Truffles to shed :D

I have just spoken to someone and they say that they shed every month or so as a hatchling then slowly reduce their shedding just as any other snake.

Tis very odd, hero had a retained tail shed on him when I got him which was more than one shed old :( x

Thats what we were told and have read. When we got Stevie she had shed stuck on her nose and it came off easily so guessing she had recently shed beofre we got her. This is her second shed with us so thats three shed in 3-4 months. Very strange.

You definatley NEED to get one. They are amazing little snakes. Such a great character. I don't know if all hoggies are that active but Stevie is seen out and about alot during the day. A right nosey madam she is. Think I may end up getting one of my own. Stevie really belongs to my 14 year old son

How often does Hero shed? Stevie shed just over 3 weeks ago and is blue again. We were told that they do shed as aften as other snakes.

Ell - A quick pic for you.

I will have to get some full body pics of her once she has shed again.
Georgina Posted - 05/09/2012 : 18:32:55
Yeah, there still a teeny bump in hero, he's gone into blue again so he won't feed for two weeks :(
Ell Posted - 04/09/2012 : 21:46:46
PICCIES???!
:>
Red123 Posted - 04/09/2012 : 18:36:16
Well we started Stevie on double fuzzies and she is still feeding really well. There is still no obvious bump after she has eaten both fuzzies so she will be moving to small mice in the next couple of weeks. Still gaing weight nicely and now weighs 55g the little porker lol.
Georgina Posted - 22/08/2012 : 08:26:35
I spoke to a few people about this and the verdict was a big as the thickest part, if not just a teeny big bigger and they are big bodied snakes. Heros 42g now and he's moved to double fluff feeds. Xx
Ell Posted - 21/08/2012 : 21:06:29
Again, I think the same applies :)
Jenn Posted - 21/08/2012 : 20:50:13
I believe it does apply, I know even with my moms ball python, the rule of thumb is 1 1/2 the biggest width. I dont thhink length plays a role, I am sure someone will be along soon!
