Posted - 26/08/2012 : 19:14:57 Took my staffy for a walk over the fields today,I saw a person walking in the distance with another dog of the lead so put mine back on the lead.upon doing this I looked to my right where there is a pond and there was a white rabbit.
I walked up to it and could c it was no wild rabbit pure white red eyes and bent grey ears lol I shouted out to the bloke saying don't supose you no anyone that has lost a rabbit do you and he laughed and said no why? He came over and agreed it was no wild rabbit said it won't last long and left. I spent a good hour trying to catch this rabbit not wanting a fox to get tere first lol
I managed to get it in the end which I was really happy about apart from all the scratches :) I walked back threw the only locall houses with a few people laughing at me as I was walking a staffy holding a rabbit yet no one has claimed it yet.
So I've brought it home knowing nothing about rabbits I've used a make do home given it a carrot which it had in seconds as well as getting some rabbit pellets from a locall shop. I have a feeling I'm goin to be haveing to sort something more permanent, but I'd rather be lumbered with it than a fox get hold of it.
Any info would be great about rabbits here are some pics Lol

thats a very lucky and pretty rabbit. he will want some hay daily along with the mix feed as they have a need to chew, we feed the rabbits at work hay and pellets daily and fresh veg 3 times a week, apprently if you put a litter tray near where they eat they will use that to toilet in which makes cleaning easer! if you end up with him long term he will need a house where he is able to stand up on his back legs, most pet shop rabbit hutches are too small! rabbits are prone to flystrike too so check his gentials are clean reguarly!! hope thats of use to you
What a gorgeou looking bunny rabbit, what is said above is absolutly right they are easier that cats to litter train both of mine (house rabbits) taught themselves to use the cat litter tray lol). As said visit your local pet shop they should have everything you need but also try www.zooplus.com i get alot of stuff of here for cats/rabits and they brill and cheaper than alot of shops. If you do end up keeping long term make sure he/she is fixed especially if a girl as other wise likely to get ovarian cancer. Also i have always been told to keep rabbits in pairs as they are naturally social animals and can get depression if on there own. Just have to deal with the integration process then, which not to bad keep in hutch/cage near each other for a while swap scents etc and then gradually introduce i use the bath tub for that as they cant move/get out so makes it easier lol. Well done you for catching i find my 2 hard enough to catch and they not got that much space to run around in. Love the pic of him/her on his back my male does that apparently puts them into a trance lol :) |

Posted - 28/08/2012 : 19:19:22 aww already a spoilt bunny! you definalty did the right thing. if its just the gential area you can use warm water and cotton wool, if you pick her up using your body to support her back, with one hand between her front legs gently restraining and the other hand suporting her bottom you should be able to clean her easliy: its a two person job though one to restrain one to clean :-) hope that helps |

Posted - 28/08/2012 : 12:56:19 Thanx for the kind words lozzy , I feel it was the right thing to do. I'm abit happier today as the heavens opened up last night and it would of been one wet cold bunny :( lol . This morning she's eaten a huge broccoli stalk hay and mixed pellets. I've allso put a plastic tray in there to try and make it poop in that area, it is currently pooping like a machine gun due to it not digesting much before hand. Poor thing! but bloody messy it could allso do with a wash but not sure how to go about this ? |

Posted - 27/08/2012 : 15:50:23 It can be hard to tell if a rabbit is fully grown just by looking at it, especially if you don't know whether it is a cross breed or not.
It's quite easy to sex an adult rabbit. Male rabbit testicles are quite obvious, but many males are neutered so this clue might be missing (as they appear to be in yours, unless it is a younger rabbit than it looks). You press gently on either side of the vent and see what comes out. There are lots and lots of articles about how to do it and what to look for on the internet and youtube is actually quite helpful for sexing videos If in doubt, it might be worth taking it to a vet to check over and have them sex it for you. |

Posted - 27/08/2012 : 14:57:17 It's a beautiful rabbit and so friendly someone out there is obviously missing a much loved pet. It might be worth popping it along to the vets or rspca just to see if it's been chipped or reported missing. |

Posted - 27/08/2012 : 10:59:11 Katie I was very close to doing just that I started to walk back as it was out of site for a good Half hour in a thorn bush. Thats when I thought hay ho let's c how good the bad named really aggressive Staffordshire is at hunting lol she sniffed round for a while dived in the bush and nudged it out without picking it up or anything (soppy thing ) . That's when I gave it the final go tied roxy to a tree took my jumper of an managed to get it over the Bugga which stopped it running and grabbed it lol, then it was te interesting bit trying to unleash the dog from the tree whist holding a rabbit which was interesting. Straight after I've knocke on local houses etc and asked the local kids I usually bump in to when walking the dog so if anyone would no I'm sure te local kids would.
It's still unclaimed and alive this morning, can I tell what sex it is or is that a vet joby ? Thanx for the help guys it was the dam Ickle red eyes glaring at me that made me not give up lol |
