agree with above post ( Mike R)! when ppl handle my snakes and say does it bite? I say might do! but if a hamster bit you, would you still pick it up the next day?!!!! most say yes!!! my reply is that prob hurts more!!! |

This is what my 4 month worm viper (Phoenix) did to my hand when she bit me recently.
She now wears a muzzle when I take her out, shes a worm with big teefers.

Most of the time it happens so fast your not sure if you have been bitten or not so don't really have time to react so you don't flinch. You just spend the time questioning if a hatchling has bitten you or not or after you put adult corn away you may see some marks. Also, snake to food, not food to snake, is what I have learnt! If snake see's something in one general area that is warm, moving and smells like mouse gets you bitten and constricted sometimes :( I know that's when I jumped! I jump at them doing a sudden constriction when feeding though. |

Yeah, I think I can cope with the pain, I squashed my hand in a clothes airer yesterday and the whole thing is black and blue, and its not hurting too bad, so maybe I can cope with a corn bite. But like I said, I flinch a lot, Id be afraid of hurting the snake, if I pulled a tooth out I would be so upset. :( I know that I will one day get bitten, but I am scared of hurting the poor thing. Its never something that you can prepare for, you cant just say oh today I will get bitten. I think its something that you should always expect from a snake, there is always the chance, so if it is constantly considered you are less likely to take any risk that could potentially make it more likely to happen.
I think Im just a worrier! :P

You cant compare a corn snake bite with very much really, i have been bitten by rabbits, mice, rats, cats, dogs, even a child!!!
A snake bite compared to any of those is a mere tickle, even if you pain threshold is very low, its still not gonna hurt that much.
Slapping your hand onto a table is more painful!!!
As mentioned, the pulling back is the most dangerous part, and not for you, but for the snake. It takes a fair few bites before you can hold your hand there and not jump a mile when they bite, but the easiest way to be able to, is to see when they are going to strike, be ready for it, or totally avoid it, the latter isnt always possible though. |

Behave yourself you! :P So I guess your way of pulling all of these good looking women is by keeping yourself looking nice, INCLUDING YOUR NAILS! ;)
And I must admit I am afraid of getting bitten, just because what is painless to one person can be mega pain to another and t'other way. And Im also scared of pulling way, I dont want to hurt some poor innocent little snake that was simply scared or thought I was food. Id be devestated if I hurt any animal, by accident or not. :( But Im glad Im quite good with pain so Im hoping I should be ok if I do get bitten. And as for adders I have no clue about that kind of pain but the reaction would be far worse for a child, so as MikeRichards said that would be a very logical explanation for why you had such a bad experience compared to him. Getting bitten is always gonna happen though keeping any animals, whether its a rabbit or a snake either way animals are animals, they cant shout at you or tell you off for doing something wrong and in the case of snakes they simply dont have the capability to tell you from food. It is there natural reaction and it is all a part of keeping animals. :/

Then you had a reaction to the bite.
I got bitten a few years ago, didnt hurt as much as a boa bite though!!!
It took hours for my hand to swell, which is pretty much a normal reaction to an Adder. People who react badly to adders are either young, old, or allergic. |

I can tell you which snake bite hurts. A wild Adder bite to the shin. Initial hit feels like a rubber band pinged at close range, takes about 2 minutes to stop you been able to walk. Leg swells up like a balloon then cracks like a marble effect. The pain was beyond anything I have ever felt before or since. Was laid up for ages.
And K those nails are shocking. :) |

Really, nothing. The bacteria from inside their mouth could be a problem and MAY swell up and tingle but this is rare, only if they get a good chomp! |

Your fingers must look like giant pinkies then K. I would love to also see other bites you have gotten from your other snakes as a comparision :D Specially king ones as I'm sure the photo's of bites I've seen from them have been shopped.
