Hi all
This morning pheonix had come out of the hide which is unusual because we never see him out Morpheus is always having a look round and exploring we will have had them a week tomorrow, they were moving around a lot behind the hide on the warm side of the viv and uncovering the heat mat so I opened it up and took out the hide to cover it back up at that point I expected them to move down to the hides at the other end but they didn't they started moving quite quickly in circles and Morpheus was on top of pheonix following his every move and making really jerky movements I tried to move morpheus but he went all tensed so I let go I left them alone and 5 minutes later they had gone to the other hides so I quickly covered the heat mat and put the cave back in pheonix has gone back in the cave now and Morpheus has stayed in the hide in the cool side also I'm not sure but I think pheonix looks a bit dull is he in blue? Up untill now they have been mainly cuddled up in the cave together with Morpheus popping out now and again so I worried when they were both out and moving a lot is this normal behaviour? Now Morpheus is standing up and waving infront of the glass.
Any ideas?

i would consider seperating them before you do anything else.
Andreamorey Posted - 30/03/2012 : 22:49:25
They are about 4 foot but we haven't handled them yet our week is up tomorrow so might try and weigh them then before we feed x
Georgina Posted - 30/03/2012 : 22:45:37
every corn grows at different rates. there is no way of telling how old they are. x
marc_sg Posted - 30/03/2012 : 22:31:06
how long are they and how much do they weigh. just out of curiosity
Andreamorey Posted - 30/03/2012 : 21:52:49
We are thinking of separating them, is there any way to tell how old they are cos we are not sure?
Georgina Posted - 30/03/2012 : 20:37:56
you defo need to seperate them. there is a tread on co-habing. they sound like they are male and female and they most probs have already mated. which if they are only 2 is very dangerous.

How can I make sig smaller?? X
manda88 Posted - 30/03/2012 : 15:08:42
Sounds like breeding behaviour to me, I can only echo what everyone else has said, separate them ASAP and then have them sexed by a reptile vet/friend/shop that actually knows what they're talking about.
Also, your sig is ENORMOUS! Please can you make is smaller, it's taking up my whole screen
lupi lou Posted - 30/03/2012 : 12:47:40
would definalty get them sexed again it is not uncommon for shops to get it wrong, i have know pet shops wrongly sex a hamster and they are very easy to sex! as smart bunny says i'd be worried about them not both being males!
smart bunny Posted - 30/03/2012 : 11:44:14
Do you have 2 hides at each end so they have a separate one each if they want it? Also have you read the cohabbing thread? Most people advise against cohabbing, although others manage it perfectly happily. I do think you should have a read though so you definitely know all the pros and cons so you can make your own, informed decision. I have to say I would be worried in case they weren't both males!!

Cohab thread here: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1070 Sorry if I've already said this to you before lol!

We are getting them out for the first time tomorrow so we will try and compare the tails, also what are the stages of shedding as I'm sure pheonixs colours seem dull but we don't see much of him
Thanx

The only way to really tell is to have them probed but some say you can tell by the tail length. If they about the same size check the lengths of the tails from vent to tip. If there is a difference in length I would say that you have male and female and they need to live apart. My two oldest (now about 18 months old) have a clear difference detween the two and I know them to be male and female. I am no expert but hope this helps a little
marc_sg Posted - 30/03/2012 : 11:24:08
i would personal get them sexed again by a different shop
Andreamorey Posted - 30/03/2012 : 11:11:12
Is there any way to tell what age they are because reptile shop didn't seem that sure but they said they were deffinitely both boys
ScalySituation Posted - 30/03/2012 : 10:58:49
if they are only two i'd say seperate them cos that does sound rather breedingish, iif they are too small lots of probs can arise for your female.
Andreamorey Posted - 30/03/2012 : 10:46:10
I'm not sure we were told they were 2 but Morpheus is about the same length as the viv which is 4ft can they be that big at 2? He is really active today and normally we only see him once or twice a day roaming around I don't think he has stayed in the hides for more than two mins at a time where as pheonix has gone back to the warm hide as usual and stayed there
Thanx
