Hi there, im very new to owning a snake in fact i dont own one yet.
The tank is coming tomorrow with all the extras.
The one thing im not sure about is handling a corn snake.
I mean do they like being handled and looped around you neck and stuff.
I want to bond with it and feel comfortable with it but dont want to annoy it. Please help. Richard.

Hey! Welcome.

The more the snake is handled, the more he'll enjoy it.
He'll be afraid at unfirst and very skittish, but when he finally gets to know you and understands you're handling him comofrtably.

I wouldn't so much advise a hatchling loose around your neck, or body out of sight. As it could fall and possibly get away.
When it's older of course, you can loop him on your neck. But corns are more inquisitive and I doubt will just lie still on you,
they'll be trying to explore you.

But, corns are docile snakes, it'll be unlikely to get bitten by picking it up unless it's in shed.

Hi, Thanks a lot for the advice. I'M really looking forward to meeting my new corn.
This forum is a godsend!
I hope to learn loads of new stuff about these snakes and others alike.
My misses is a bit worried but i've reassured her. I've done a bit of swatting up on them so i'm fairly confident i can be a
decent keeper. The only thing i'm worried about is if it escapes and we can't find it! lol
Any suggestions for a name? A male one.

There's a lot of helpful people here, not the usual bunch like on RFUK who'll flame you.

What's it's housing? Wooden Viv? or?

I called my males Sim and Jeff.
Original right?

A BIG THANKYOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR NAME SUGGESTIONS AND A WARM WELCOME.
THE NAME IS QUITE LOW ON THE PRIORITY LIST AT THE MO BUT I,VE SHORT LISTED A FEW.
THE HOUSING IS FAIRLY BASIC BUT SUITABLE. IM STARTING OFF WITH A SNAKE STARTER KIT
WITH ALL THE BITS AND BOBS TO GET UP AND RUNNING.
AS I GET MORE CLUED UP AND FAMILLIAR WITH SNAKE(S), I DARE SAY I;LL EXPAND AND BE A
BIT MORE ADVENTUROUS. I HAVE READ UP ON THEM AND ALTHOUGH THIS IS REALLY HELPFUL, I
THINK LEARNING FROM YOUR OWN MISTAKES IS SOMETIMES THE BEST WAY.
ANYWAY,I'M SURE I'LL LEARN LOADS FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELVES AND MAYBE EVEN CONTRIBUTE MY
OWN IDEAS AND EXPERIENCES ONE DAY.
ONE MORE QUESTION WHILE THINK OF IT...WHY DO THEY VARY IN PRICE SO MUCH? WHATS THE DIFF?

Supply and demand. Some of the gene combinations are very complex and so there are very few around.

As BE said, depends on the morphs really. You could get an albino, more expensive as apposed to an Anerythistic which is less.
It's to do with rare and common

because the genetics can be so complex, and each generation can't really be bred from till they're 3 years old there's a lot of long-term investment. with morphs like plasma corns, their first generation are just getting to breeding age now and there's very few around so they cost MEGAbucks!

i think the amel was the first morph produced about 25-30 years ago, they're very common, can be very pretty but are readily available so their prices are pretty low - about £10-£20 a hatchling from breeders.

I am the proud owner of a corn snake (An Amel) i think. I picked him up this evening from an enthusiast.
The snake comes with a recorded background so i know when he hatched, shed an when a what its eaten.
The snake(which i might name slash) has settled in well in the viv and is exploring all the hiding places.
He is due a feed so i will buy some mice fluffs tomorrow to last a few weeks.
If i can find some decent plastic plants and branches i will get them aswell.
I probably sound really sad but i've keep anything like this before so bare with me.
I can see why people become snake collectors. I want another one!!!!!!!

congrats
best off leaving him to settle in for a week before handling or feeding - gives you a bit of time to buy the pinkies/fuzzies in too
