Following on from http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1935 I thought I would post some pics for owners with less experience.
Many years ago I had a nice big old Royal, about 15 years old, maybe more, and he fed on ONE mouse every week. Jump 13 years ahead and I now have an 08 royal who eats one small rat a week (already more than my old one).
I was always scared of giving prey that was too big, and people telling me didn't really help.
So, I thought I would show you what a 9 (ish) month old Corn "can" eat, and the resulting bump etc

Two days later you couldn't tell the corn had eaten. Trust me, those who are feeding multiple small prey, give it a go, you will be suprised. This, tbh, is on the larger side of what I normally feed, I just thought it would be a good example of what CAN be given.
oh, and please, no "you shouldn't feed in the viv" statements. |
ooops, I bought another......... |

shes been on fuzzies for a few weeks, i only really take the size of the head in to consideration as thats the hardest part the rest of the body is quiet soft so an squishes up so its not really that big |

try to gradually go up the sizes rather than going from a fuzzy to a large mouse though, give them time to adjust |

Just go to small mouse and miss fuzzy, if it's the same size as mine it won't harm. |

I would move them up gradually.
Personally I'd say that that meal was larger than I'd like to feed regularly. |

It is more than I feed regularly, as the title suggested, it was just to illustrate that they CAN take more than you think.
The amount of posts I have read in my time about people feeding corns 3 pinkies in one sitting, or 2 for months on end. The idea was more just to make people think about upping as allot I have spoken to appear to be afraid, thinking a fuzzy would harm their 6-7mth old corn...... |

it is a large meal and just shows wot they can take.
i have just started to move my baby corn up the food scale. with my fist corn im sure i was under feeding for ages. But before i move up a size i do a couple of multiple feeds just to help them getting used to a bigger meal. and if they do struggle hopefully they wont regurge both. it is suprising on wot they can eat for sure.
IMO just dont up the meal sizes by too much in one goto give them time to adjust. |

hi this is Harry's mum, we gave ember a fuzzy today (i thought that it was too big) and we were amazed at her eating it, she/he even constricted it (if thats the word for wrapping around it) we tried to take it off her because it was so big but she wouldn't let us and ate it all up eventually! amazing! |

yeah some people dont realize how big a prey item a corn snake or any snake for that matter can actually eat. my corn snake was already on large fuzzies when i got him at 6months old and under 2feet long, most people would still be feeding their snakes pinkies at that size and age. but thats what he was on when i bought him. but what i have heard is that the ideal sized meal should take 48hours to digest in the right temperature conditions. i can understand why people are a bit worried to feed something that looks a challenge of a meal for a young small corn snake as from the posts on previous problems in other forums, i have noticed that most medical problems such as regurgitation etc are all from juvenile corn snakes, so that must mean they are very vulnerable to problems at that size and age. my snake at the moment should ideally be on large mice but recently i have only been able to get medium sized so hes been having to make do with them. he ate 2 of them a few weeks ago and digested them ok so hes defiantley ready for large. |

My little hoggie is just 6 months old and 13" long, and he's been on fuzzies for the last 3 weeks with no problems (I only had him on 2 pinks for two or maybe 3 weeks prior to moving up, as he was hunting round his viv 24 hrs after feeds) ... so corns should be well fine!
