Hi I was going to be getting a bearded dragon, but what has put me off are the costs of heating and food. I am now looking into corn snakes. How much are heating costs, and feeding costs? I am just having a look |

Welcome to the site Dragonpop.
Corns just need a heat mat running through a stat, they use naff all electricity compaired to beardies ceramics and no UV at all. Some people like to put lighting in but it's not essential.
As for food, a beardie can cost up to £10 a week to feed a corn is more like £1 so much cheaper.

If your worried about feeding costs, snakes are the way to go. It costs me £35 a year to feed my adult. |

Corns are cheaper, my 2 beardies are costing an average of about 2 quid a day (ish). |

heya and welcome corns are cheap to run but you do need to consider can you afford any unexpected bills, like veterinary treatment, if money is too tight for a beardie? |

Welcome to the forum ^^ Yeah corns are very cheap, especially when they get to the size where they only need feeding once a week :) |

Hi :) I just brought a baby corn snake, getting all the equipment and snake has cost me about £100, the pinkies he/she is eating are only 50p each so thats about £1 a week. My heat mat is 7W so I worked that out to cost me about £9 a year to run 24hours every day, My calculation may well be wrong though! I just did; Watt of heatmat/1000= to get kW kW x hours in use over whole year= kW per Hour Then Mulitply that by your electricity cost per kW/h. Sorry if that is no help to you Jen |
