Hello everyone.
I'm two weeks away from owning my first corn snake, I first held him today and he was very placid and quite curious towards me, which I think is a good sign, I'm very exited. I have a roughly 1 meter by 2 feet space for his tank and can't wait to get him home.
My sister and her boyfriend bought a Bearded Dragon from the same reptile dealer and he is thriving.
The Corn Snake I have chosen is 4 months old and Id estimate about 10inches long.
They seem to be a very good pet, as I have always loved animals of all kind, the only problem is my allergies, I'm very sensitive towards furry animals like rabbits and other rodents, I have a Border Collie and a cat which I have grown immune to. I hope my dog won't pose a problem. So a reptile seems like an ideal pet for me.
I'd appreciate some feedback regarding my dog and if she'd be a problem. And other issues such as how to keep him stimulated and happy.
Any feedback would be great.
Yours sincerely

heya and welcome i'm allergic to anything with fur or feathers, the snakes are my only pets that i'm not allergic to! congrats on your imminent purchase but there's another purchase you need to make first - a much smaller viv/faunarium/tub/RUB!! the viv you have is great for an adult but a hatchling and even a juvenile corn would feel lost in it and stress out which can lead to health and feeding problems. as a viv size guide use: length of viv + depth of viv = maximum snake size so for example a 12" long viv that's 6" wide is suitable for a corn up to 18" long |

thank you for the feedback, does that mean I should keep him in a smaller tank/rub until he grows or should I have a large tank as well ? |

it's your choice really - if you want to hang onto your current big viv for a few years. you could always put a smaller faun/RUB inside it and use the space for storage, or in the future you could put in a temporary divider to split it in half to make a suitably sized viv, or 2 suitably sized vivs - it's hard to stick to one snake!! |

Welcome to the forum ^^ Dividing the viv is always good, as Gingerpony says, then theres space for two... If the viv is 3ft x 1.5ft like mine, it means they will be ok in there until they are both 3ft before needing to buy another :D |
