Well i have 2 actually... i'll start with the very stupid one first  ... wont the little spikes on this http://www.bluelizardreptiles.co.uk/vivariumdecor/plantsandvines/015561229807 be uncomfortable for my snake?! Or if anyone can recomend a better little plant that would be much appreciated!
2nd thing, my boyfriend asked my is we could use stones in Alice's faun and i have no idea :S
Eeek im really embarassed but what the heck i thought id ask anyway!!

I keep beardies and have those little cactus plants in with them. The spikes are very soft plastic so they won't hurt your snake. There's no reason why you shouldn't put stones in with your snake, just make sure they are thoroughly washed in a bleach solution and baked in a hot oven for a little while first to kill any bugs. And DONT use a heat rock! Not stupid questions....somebody else probably wanted to know as well but were not brave enough to ask!!  |

Thank you!!! I almost didnt post the topic because i knew it was a silly thing to ask but at least now i know... and i didnt know about washing the stones and baking them so i have learnt something new :)
What's wrong with using a heat rock?

Heat rocks have a really bad habit of overheating and causing some really serious burns.
The scales on the snakes are much much tougher than a lot of people give them credit for!! |

I agree with that completely, if anyone has a question, it's better to ask it than to be unsure.
One of my first questions on here was about toothpaste, here.
Although I have always said that the ONLY silly question that can be asked is: I have an empty viv, what shall I do with it?? As the answer to that is obvious, Fill it!!
Heat rocks have been known to get excessively hot and/or have even hotter hotspots, which results in burns and other injuries to your snake.

I had no idea about heat rocks, but by the sounds of it i wont be trying them either!!
I've ordered the little cactus thing now, i decided to buy Alice some presents for when his mite treatment is over! I've only had him for a few weeks and now im thinking if i have any room for more :S |

Good questions.
I thought the same about the cactus plant but had a good feel of one in my local pet shop and they are quite soft. I think they look great in a viv too :o) |

On a serious note, I did wonder about those plants but then I went into a pet shop at the weekend and saw a couple of corn snakes quite happily wrapped around it! |

I just fill the kettle up to the top and boil it, put the stones in the sink and submerge them in the boiling water, (as long as they are smooth rocks, so there's no cracks for dirt and insects to hide in).
Once I did this to a large rock (about 2kg) and it somehow cracked in two :S not sure how, but it made a hell of a bang. :L
Noodle has even got a brick in his viv. :L
IMO, hot rocks are a no go. Iv'e never had one, but went to a pet shop with them once and brushed my hand against one when putting a gecko back in. My hand quickly moved away, (lucky the Gecko had already been put down).

| Don't use pumice rocks or any other pumice-like rocks, they are great for taking the rough bits off the bottom of your feet but the snake needs his rough bits. |

Haha okie dokie, i was thinking of a few smooth pebbles, just so he's got different things to climb on and explore. My boyfriend is working in Homebase the the moment so im sure i can find suitable ones there?!

Also the "holes" in pumice could hide heaps of little nasties!

Make sure he wears a belt if he's filling his pockets with rocks :)
I have my eye on some slate rocks but they are currently sitting on a beach 2 miles away from where I can park my car. Maybe just leave them and buy one instead. |

Yes it makes a sound.
Depending on whether you see sound as a technical detail, or a matter of perception.
If you're counting it as a matter of perception, then yes someone has to be there to hear it.
But for counting the sound as the manipulation of airwaves and molecules bouncing off one another, then no, no one has to be there for the sound to exist. |
