Spot was fed on Sunday (20/11) and he poo'd on Tuesday. This afternoon I noticed the most horrific smell and traced it to Spot's viv. He had poo'd again in his normal corner but right at the front of the viv was a huge pile of milky sludge, with mouse feet and a tail and skin sticking out of it. I'm not going to panic just yet, I think its because I bought a snake cave which is a brilliant hide but is in the middle of the viv and not on the heat mat so he hasn't been able to digest it fast enough, he's chosen the brilliant hide over regulating his temperatures (I've taken it out to take it out the equation). I also handled him yesterday night too, if he was still digesting his mouse I think it might have been my fault :(
Does anyone have any advice on what to do after a regurge. I know you don't feed them for a while to allow them time to rebuild their stomach acid etc but how long. Plus handling etc, is it best to just leave him alone.
On a more educational note, anyone not sure if they have poo or regurge I have this advice: Poo smells bad, regurge is an eye watering, stomach turning, skin crawling hellish stink. (oh and the mouse feet sticking out of it was a clue). |

Thanks for the link, answered everything I want to know and confirms (to me anyway) that a mixture of his new hide been cold and me not extending the waiting time to handle an extra 24hrs (he had a big dinner and i normally wait until Wednesday to handle) has led to this. Going to just leave him alone for 10 days and have already taken the snake cave out so he uses his proper hot end hide with no bottom on it, I will also reduce the size of mouse I'm giving him for a little bit. Fingers crossed that will solve this and fingers crossed that's the only regurge I have to deal with. |

Thanks, I'm not panicking just yet. Just one of those things. I feel guilty more than anything else for picking him up yesterday, it was no more than 2 minutes but it was enough. Just have to put it down to experience. I'll let everyone know how he is but so far he's been out and about for about an hour or so but has just gone into his hide so I have put a towel over the front of the viv to give him some peace. |

Try not to feel guilty, easier said than done. Spot will be fine if you just take it easy with him until his next feed in 10 days. As a precaution you could go back down a size meal for a couple of feeds to aid his digestive system getting back to normal, not too much to deal with for a while! |
