Got in from work last night to a cold house and the temperature in the faunarium was only reading 23 degrees. Wrapped some bubble wrap round it before i went to work this morning thinking this may help to keep the heat in but got back tonight and it was still reading 23 degrees. I only have a rubbish dial thermometer which is laying on top of the substrate. I know i need to get a digital one which i will get soon but how can i increase the temperature in the faunarium?

Just to add she's gone 'blue' so should be shedding any day soon and dont want the cold temperature to cause problems.

Thanks

23C isn't too cold, things will always be tricky this time of year (if it's anywhere near as cold as it is here!!). Try stuffing the hides with shredded newspaper, or moving the Faun away from a drafty area? Whats your setup like?

What type of heating are you using for the faunarium a heat mat? And does it have a stat?

Sorry guys didn't give too much info did i !!
It's a heat mat with a stat but the temp doesn't get warm enough for the stat to be needed.
The temp reading is taken on top of the substrate in the 'warm' end.

If the mat is connected to a stat the heat mat should heat to the temp that the stat is set to give or take a few degrees so best to check temp with a digital thermometer attached to the stat probe. Are you sure the mat is working?

im guessing the mat is under the faunarium, so what is the temp under the substrate inside the faunarium?

Depending on the thickness of the substrate, heatmats should be able to give enough heat for Vivs, maybe not the HUGE ones however. One of the main reasons for a Stat however for heatmats is mainly a SAFETY precaution, the Stat limits the mat to 100% of power and cuts it off if it fails. Look at the pic below and tell me you would be happy with this happening to your Corn!! (Granted, ridiculously rare.. but still).

if its a dial thermometer then the temp will be completely different.

Make sure the heat mat is either under the faun but taped to the base or in the faun under the aspen. the thermostat probe should be on the mat and the probe from the digi thermom should be inside the faun under the aspen placed on the mat area.

i would say that until you get a digi thermom keep your stat temp to 30/33 if the mat is under the faun or 26/30 if in the faun.

Bear in mind that in the wild corns have to endure cold temperatures during winter. They are surprisingly hardy!

As above, the dial thermometers arent worth bothering with, they are very very slow to react to temps, and they are wildly innacurate.
unless you are planning to hibernate, then 23 IS too cold, thats high end hibernation temps, and he shouldnt be fed. however, you need to be sure first, get a digi thermometer and cable tie, rubber band, anything but sticky tape, it to the stat probe.
How big is the heatmat, and the faun?

Thanks for all your replies guys. Think i defo need to get a didital thermometer first so i can get an accurate temperature and then take it from there( got one ordered). The heat mat is 10 x 5 7.25 watts. Faun measures 15"x7"x10".
