bit of advice please...

i have bought a baby cornsnake for someone for christmas. this will be their first snake of their own but before i get berated for being irresponsible, they handle my snakes and are competent (though inexperienced) handlers and will be responsible in caring for their pet and im on hand should they need help.

anyhoo, the snake in question is my aforementioned "quick lil corn". hes relatively friendly (but has faked a strike at me yesterday) but incredibly lively and fast! obviously regular handling is the only way to calm him down but i wondered if anyone had any advice so that he doesnt get away? i thort of maybe handling him in a large cardboard box so if he does elude his captor he will only be in the box? he's just far too small to sort of grab y'know? He hasnt given me the slip yet but its come close! hes a gorgeous snake and im, in a way, really gutted hes gotta go but ill still see him often and i know he'll be in good hands and bring a lot of happiness!

any advice much appreciated!

The box idea is actually a good idea, stick with it and let us know how it all goes.

As for being berated for being irresponsible, I think it is. Only ONE snake, how dare you.

i handle hyper snakeys over the dining room table. that way if they get away from me they only ever seem to go to the items on the table (could even put some stuff on the table like a tea towel that theyl go to for cover?) and its lke, a 20 cm drop so they dont get hurt. theyve never jumped off the edge either which is good lol

Tsk K, your such a bad evil person! Don't listen to K about kings, it means that you end up looking at preloved and every other site looking at kings at least weekly :(

Box is a good idea, which I though of that! Apart from that tell your mate to stop tickling his snake XD

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

When I got Kayo I always handled him above one of those under-bed storage boxes with a towel in the bottom. It's about 3' x 2' so there was plenty of space for him to land on if he made a break for it and the sides were high enough that I could catch up with him before he made a bid for freedom. Used it for about a month before I got confident enough to handle him without a catch-tray underneath. Speedy Gon-snakey!
