| Hi :) Ive been told its best to take Mrs Brown out of her tank to feed her, Ive only had her 5 days and she scarpers everytime I go to put my hand in. Whats the best course of action?? Thanks. |
Not forgetting the Tortoises, and the Chickens!!

You can feed her in the tank if you like - especially since she's so new and will still be pretty stressed.
Just put down a piece of paper or a plate or something to make sure she cant swallow and substrate  |

| she should be left alone for atleast 7 days without bothering her to give her time to settle in, even if she misses her normal feeding time. i personally wouldnt feed in her viv unless shes bedding on paper towels etc.the risk of swallowing any substrate is far too great as we all know how some snakes will drag thier food around the viv before eating it. |

| Once you put your hand in to get her you must be confident and firm but clearly dont hurt her. Always leave 7 days of settling in time and it won't matter if she misses a feed. She will get used to it especially when she realises food is coming. The first time I fed Tiko he was very defensive especially once he had taken the food, now he is chilled out and is used to me lifting him up and about! |

| Leave your snake for 7 days before you handle her. As everyone says missing a feed won't hurt her. Make sure you change her water each day and just tidy her substrate and check for poos at the same time. That will help her get used to your smell and you going into 'her space' without freaking her out too much. You could also do the old sock trick.......put an old sock in your top for the day then pop it in her hide so she has your 'smell' in a secure place. It might help her settle and be less stressed when you can handle her. |

shes gone into hiding now, shes quite nervy
I may well try the sock trick, I could do with more cleavage anyway lol ;) |

Hatchies can be very fast so be prepared when you do handle for the first time. You may need to be quiet firm and almost 'grab' your snake to start with until it gets used to handling.

New home means new sights, smells etc so she needs time to settle and get used to it all. That's one of the reasons the sock trick can be good, helps them to adjust.
