Just a quick question.

Im thinking of building my own viv, only problem is, where would i get the glass.

I was thinking of using acrylic/perspex but that tends to go a funny colour, go misty or scratch really easily.

If anyone could help it would be great

Thanks, James

A glazier would be a good place to start. Just make sure you ask for safety glass and have all the measurements and corner angles for them.

I have a pet frog and one day after cleaning the terrerium out I went to put the glass door back in and I dropped it on the floor. I went straight to my local glaziers and they cut me a new one while I waited. It only cost a few pounds too.

When I built my stack, I got the glass last.
There's nothing worse than building something and stuffing up 1 measurement (as I did) which meant the glass would've been 5mm to small.

Yeah, I'm working out the costs first.

I was just nosing through eBay and come across a TV unit which was perfect. Only problem was, the section which would be for the snakes is a fair size and just wanted to work out how much it's going to cost and whether it's worth doing.

I'm building a stack at the moment, the glass has not been ordered yet, I can draw plans until I'm blue in the face but its bound to be a tiny bit off square as I'm building it. The runners give you a tiny bit of play but until its built and remeasured i'm not ordering any glass.

My triple 3ft stack ended up costing me just over 60 quid to build it.
That's for the wood, runners, glass and handles.

The extra bits (heat sources, lights, stats etc) were obviously an extra cost.

The wood is getting cut at B&Q and will be square, the bit that is the weak link is me, I have to put it together and I'm going to try my very best to get it perfect but I'm just going to order the glass when its all assembled and I can take measurements from the gap its going into rather than my drawings though I'm sure it would be fine I'm going to wait just to be sure.

I have mine all priced at £241.45, I will scavenge a lot of equipment out of my current vivs. Thats 3, 3X2 Vivs and 1, 6X2 Viv

...also ask the glass place for polished edges, that will take the sharpness off and save your fingers or more importantly prevent snakey injuries if they manage to squeeze between the panes.
