I understand that when you first buy a Corn Snake, you need to let it settle into it's new home etc, but say it's a hatchling, do you need to give it another week when you move it out the RUB/Faunarium and into a Vivarium?
Thank you |

ideally you want to leave it about 7 days from when you put it in to the tub after you buy it, if you already own the snake and are moving it, its not so much of an issue, but a couple of days wont hurt. |

This is great to know mikerichards, my little man is moving up to his nice 3ft viv sometime this week (eagerly awaiting delivery of some extra bits) |

How big is he? just be aware that he may not appreciate the extra space, they are not like other animals that thrive on huge amounts of space, quite the opposite, they thrive in small well maintained spaces. |

He has outgrown his last home already - he is "roughly" 2.5ft...since getting him he has grown a good 1/2ft at least (he is roughly 10 1/2 months old) - I obviously don't want to stress him in a house too big, but he is definately now too small for his current home. Do you think i should hold off a little longer before moving him into the full sized Viv then? I do plan on having it packed out nicely with "stuff" to make him feel as secure as possible. Cheers |

I would just see how you go, our idea of them outgrowing their home is slightly different to theirs a lot of the time, most of mine are in 12x18 inch tubs, which is plenty big enough, even for adults. They dont need space, they dont need excercise, they dont need to be able to climb or explore, they need to feel secure though, and adding more space isnt the way to do that. My corns stay in 12x6 inch tubs until they are about 2ft anyway, maybe slightly bigger, but again, it depends on the snake and how confident it is.
See how you go, if you start having problems, go down a size. Also a 3ft viv is a viv for life, dont go any bigger, its a waste of money for one, and a waste of space. For giggles, and because i could, i chucked my big anery, whos about 4.5 - 5ft in a 4ft viv, only a 4x1, hides at both ends, plants wood etc. She hated it, i only every saw her come out to drink, then it was straight back in the hide, she never wandered about, never explored, but she certainly felt insecure though. |
