Ok to say im unhappy about this is an understatement!

Got a new digital thermometer today for the Viv, wasnt sure the old one was working. took the temp of the heat mat, its sitting at 40degrees!!

Text the "mate" i got her from, said about it and she said "yeah the stat hasnt been working for months" (me, im raging!)

What do i do? Do i turn it off? The over all temp of the viv right now is at 28degrees. Also got a light, but its not on. Never is. never felt like she needed the extra heat!

Also just going to order new stat, already ordered a new heat mat incase this one broke!

Any help or advice please!

Me personally firstly I would turn the mat off and replace asap so as to stop our snowey getting burnt and then secondly I would find your "mate" and let ri with both barrels and even see if they will help cover any of your costs

i dont have a replacement mat yet, should be here tomorrow or day after. Im not bothered about any costs, knew reptiles would take up a bit of money so doesnt bother me by any means. Checked her over, no burns luckily. And she has been living like this for months! Really upset, poor girl!

As long as your snake has not fed in the last 48 hours, turn off the mat untill you can replace it and the thermostat. Do not feed your snake until you have sorted the problem. Even if it means a few days or a week over due a feed. it will be ok going for this short time without.

as per TP's response ^^
if it's not fed in the last 48hrs just switch it off till you're sorted

unfortunately its a risk you take when you buy a second hand, matured set up. But not good that the problem was known about and they didnt tell you. Thats just wrong. But at least you have realised before any damage has been done.

the extreme heat may be the reason she's not been eating..........if it's too hot she'll be constantly moving around to thermoregulate - not something she'll relish doing with a belly full of food!

i'd just get a new or 2ndhand stat rather than buying everything again

reason she hadnt eaten before is because she was never offered food :/

Anyways, temp down to 28 in there now. Much better!

Just leave your mat turned off until you have your new equipment, snakey should be fine so long as you haven't just fed it. Its quite a warm night anyhow.

The big ball of fire in the sky is nothing to be a fraid of, it isn't an angry god. It's called the sun and it is perfectly normal
