I often wonder the same thing my corn is in a faunerium only 4 months old but i have hurd/read that a 25 litre rub/vivarium is fine for a adult? which i find very hard/harsh to believe to be honest. Haveing 20 inch beardies in a 4 by 2 foot vivariums and then thinking of putting potentially a five foot plus snake in a 25 litre tub this does not seem right? i purchased a 50 litre rub for the next upgrade which is only 18cm high but has plenty of floor space but this still concerns me. Lets hope people can actally shed some light on this topic and be helpfull ;]

Seems as if the topic is being avoided again im guessing there all kept in small rubs in that case ? i.e snake racks they seem to be like cat litter trays with a full grown adult in can they really be happy in that envirement i doubt it very much.

From top: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thillsphotography/6857213603/
There is a cork bark to go in there after drying.
i will be keeping my snake in there for the rest of his life. a 64 RUB isn't ideal, but it is adequate for an adult snake. Snake's won't use acres of space even if you give it to them.. They only REALLY need to be able to thermoregulate themselves properly, which an adult will be able to do in a 64L RUB.
I won't not use anything smaller, and as for "cat litter" trays, the rubs I've seen most breeders in racks are 33L RUBS, which are the same size as 64's, only shallower, so the snake can't climb but it has the same floor space to move around but I'm not a breeder so I'll let a breeder answer that one.
And I'll answer myself any questions about my rub. |

I don't think it is being avoided, just that the majority of folk here have vivariums of one sort or another. I do have 25 litre crates which I use as temporary holders during strip downs and cleaning. I would only use containers for young snakes until they were ready to be moved into a fully set up viv. I have 4 at this time and like to watch them doing their thing without having to unpack them every time. |

Danny
How to make friends on this forum, do not assume or claim folks here keep their snakes in rubs that are too small.
I dont have any photos of my rubs simply as there is 2 hides a bowl and aubiose thats it not too exciting, but thats all ive got in my vivs also. |

see that seems adequate from judgeing the size of my 50 litre i mean im going by things ive seen on youtube which i no is full of smelly stuff but it shows that people do it, and many peoples websites and even shops have stated a 25litre tank is plenty for a fully grown snake but personally i think that's rubbish and not enough room which im sure you agree on. I just wanted to see what is the reality of peoples rubs, then after ceing this topic i had to have a input but by from someone else mensioning above they have posted this before and didnt get much of a response.i wonder why this is? saying notheing really does say alot, do the people that have posted on this agree or beg to differ?
All the best Danny |

I already have those ;) and pictures dont need to be required its just clearly a debate that has gone on before with no response which i dont see why it hasnt had one, if anything you would be helping new members aswell as current members not by saying whats inside your rubs just by typing 2 numbers and a letter ..l with over 120 views in a day it does make you wonder whats the big secret its the point of a forum isnt it? to share and help other people?

for adults, either 33 or 50l is normally sufficient no harm in going bigger if you want. Also there has never been a songle post on this site about breeders using 25l rubs. Any respectable breeder I know all use as a minimum 33l rubs. |

A corn can do fine in a 64L RUB. there are many storage boxes but the Really Useful Box is a brand, so if you are quoting the brand make sure you are saying the right sizes.
A snake, guaranteed, will not use the space you give it. The only space mine use are in their hides and getting from hide a to hide b. |

Here's one of the temporary crates I had set up for Mirkey until I had re-organised my living room. It's approx 25 litre, 24x15x7 inches. 3/8" hand drilled ventilation holes on all sides. 3 for a tenner from InStore/ Poundstretcher. Perfectly adequate for the couple of weeks he was in it. I wouldn't trust it any longer as he was almost able to raise the clipped lid.

hey your not being ignored! a lot of people keep in fauns then move it vivs when older, or in my case i have my adult in a 150l rub with clip locks and toys adequately ventilated. I plan on keeping him there for a good while yet as no point building a viv stack when my others are hatchies. i find that just fine for him. £17 from pound stretcher. not putting up picks till i get it the way i want it. |

I would guess that the initial lack of response is probably as Bauldy pointed out, that most ppl here have their snakes in vivs. I've got all mine in vivs, even the tiddler, she's in an 18x18x12 (unbranded but same type as vivexotic), with masses of foliage and about 5 hides. I only use rubs for feeding/temp holding while doing a clean out. I can appreciate that a rub would be good for a bigger snake if space is an issue, but I can't help or offer input cos I don't do it. pretty useless post, in fact- but another response for you!!
i hope you come to some sort of informed decision for your snakeys. |
and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....

1.2.0 corns: captain haddock, sharon the tiddler and Darling Debbie. plus 0.2.0 cali kings: spot and Numpty... not forgetting the delightful Miss Lovely-Gonzalez-La-Poop apricot pueblan milk snake, and we all miss the Lodger who thought he was a cobra....
