I have purchased a large heat mat to go under my 2 rubs. However up on receiving it, it says not to be used on plastic tanks......
In theory the rubs would not be sitting on it because of the air flow gap???
What do you think?

Ok im a bit confused you say you bought a heat mat to go under your rubs then say they wont be sat on the mat because of the airflow gap ? i think i must be missing something lol i would have thought if your mat is run by a stat it would be fine as its not going to get hot enough to melt the tubs or anyything im assuming that the heatmat will be placed under the rubs thats how mine are in one viv i have one large mat with two rubs at opposite ends of the mat |

Right now I am running 2 mats on 1 stat. My rubs sit directly on the mats.
I purchased a large heat mat so I had 1 mat, 1 stat. However the new mat says not for plastic tanks.
Would you place the rubs directly on it? or do you have a gap?? between mat and rub??
or shall I return it and carry on doing what im doing..... |

ok that makes more sense lol i have two mats on one mat and one stat currently its a big mat and each rub is half on half off the mat lengthways so each rub has a warm and and cool end which is what i assume you plan to do my rubs sit directly underneath the rubs cant see any need for a gap if the mats statted there should be no way its going to get warm enough to damage the plastic why not try it with empty rubs and monitor the temps inside the rubs first ? |

I did indeed.
I was just a bit concerned the heat mat arrived with 'not for plastic' - my own fault I didnt read it properly! doh. |

I think they put 'not for plastic' because they know the potential temperatures that the heatmat can reach without a thermostat attached. Without a stat you have the potential of melting plastic but as long as you use a stat, which you plan to, then there shouldnt be a problem. |

I have got mine on habistat stats too they are a lil bit more expensive than the other type however saftey of my snakes is paramount so i dont mind a bit more expense for peace of mind lol personally i use ultratherm mats as i find there seems to be next to no fluctuatiomn in temps but everyones different personal preference yet again but i would be inclined to think as long as you have a stat it doesnt really matter what brand you use lol |
