Have now managed to stabilise the temp in the warm end and it is 28-30degrees but this morning the cold end reading is 17degrees.
Does this matter?? I know it is just the ambient temp but what happens in the winter?? will it get too cold?

Don't worry about the cold end, just ensure to maintain the warm end as you have.

Remember corns are native to the central US where winter temps can go well below 17degrees so long as they have someplace warm to get to they'll make it.
