Some shots of my two latest King Snake rehomers.

First up is Fester the Mexican Black King (MBK) also known as the notorious Black Thumb Muncher. It entices the innocent herper with its handsome good looks (the snake not the herper that is) and acts like a big floppy strip of liquorice. Once in striking range it pounces, immobilizes with a deadly wrist restaint, constricts then procedes to eat any available digit. It has been noted that this particular snake has a preference for thumbs but will also happily attempt to take a wrist bone down in a oner.

Typical ambush innocence pose:

I got the blues but still gotta eat something until the next thumb comes by:

A strange phenomenon, a King Snake being consumed by its own shed:

Oh! Yes! There will be blood:

Next up is Rattler, aka "Rattle and Hum". He's a beautiful Florida King with the adorable habit of drumming his tail between the water dish and tube hide if you look at him sideways. This gives the pleasing audible rhythmic effect of tinkling cymbal and a pneumatic drill. He uses this jungle beat as a countdown to launching himself skywards at a great rate of knots and annointing all and sundry with a generous dose of "Eau d' Regal Musque".

I managed to get these couple of pics of pre-launch but it was difficult to use the camera while wearing a gas mask and full biological warfare suit. This was necessary due to the fact that I have run out of clean t-shirts.

Belting out the vibes pre-launch:

I is a handsome chap and this is my good side:

Enjoy! Someone might as well.

Donnie, if I had the space and the money there are plenty I would take under my wing.

SB, I have a few more of that shedding session. That particular photo one was the funniest. Best complete shed I've ever seen then he went into blue 3 weeks later and shed again.

Mick, I'm so glad to hear that your missus was so amused. It makes the pain worthwhile and bearable.
I was not kidding about the thumb and wrist bone and I can assure you that it was not ketchup.

To comply with the CSF qualifying regulations, I present my evidence for the consideration of the judges.

Exhibit A: The Black Thumb Muncher munching as its name suggests.
I've heard of 'bum first' technique but 'thumb first' is a ... er .. first. BRW, I don't have such pale skin.It is due to lack of blood circulation caused by the living tournique.

Exhibit B: The BTM being a little over ambitious but making a damned determined attempt at the alternative method anyway.

Exhibit C: The non-ketchup rescued remains of the victim. Even CSI would be pushed to come up with such a gory demise.

He-he! All part of the fun .. allegedly.

Well that certainly is one... er... 'characterful' snake! Permanently angry or permanently hungry? Or does he just enjoy expressing himself?

I don't know what's got into him, Mike. When I got him about 6/7 weeks ago he was a sloppy big lump. Since I moved him from the temp tub and housed him in a new viv he's become a bit of a lad. This behaviour really started after he shed (twice in 3 weeks). He went for me a couple of times when just changing the water dish. That's when he got me the good one between finger and thumb web. Bugger just about dragged me into the viv.

He's got 2 big tube hides, branches and a big Pyrex dish for a paddling pool. I might up the size of his feed to jumbo mice and see if that dampens down the appetite for thumbs. I will win in the end, even if I can't play the piano any more.

He ripped the leg off the mouse last feeding day. It was some strike and he had the leg hanging there like a wide boy with a mangled cigarette dangling from his jaws. lol

I was gonna suggest something about him shedding twice in 3 weeks and it's left him a bit touch-sensitive and he's defensive because of it. But he's not striking to keep you away, he's actually trying to eat you lol

My corn used to do that. She was a really fierce feeder, a few times she'd strike so hard she'd rip a mouse right open, which was fairly unpleasant. She never went for me though, always saved it for the mice.

Nope, he's not sensitive just cantankerous. He goes into full on ambush mode and ready to square up to anything if he catches sight of movement, even from a distance.
