Basically all my Corn will eat is Ratpups, I can't get her to eat mice, the previous owner couldn't get her to eat mice, the professionals (my local reptile shop) can't get her to eat mice!!

I've been told they can't really survive on ratpups but must eat mice, but she just won't take them. I know they'll make her fat and everything but I'll give her enough excersize to work it all off.

My Corn has been in the care of my local for two weeks now, trying to get her to feed, I'm missing her is it worth taking her home and feeding her ratpups probably for the rest of her life or let them hang onto her a week or two more?

She's about 1-2 years of age.

Feeding rat pups as an adult probably isn't a good option as if she reaches a fair size they would be too small plus they don't contain the same nutrition as an adult.

As lupi lou said, it might be worth trying to jacket a mouse. Or maybe it is the smell she doesn't like? Some people have had success with washing a mouse then scenting it with something else, you could maybe try scenting it with the rat pup or it could even be the fur she isn't keen on? Might be worth shaving it or something? I don't know if it would help but it is worth a try.

She's just stubborn. The people at the reptile shop have been rubbing mice up against massive rats, they've thought out several massive rats on top op the mice and she's still not taken them and we've established it's not the fur she doesn't like because we tries her on a little furless pinkie and she wouldn't take that either. I haven't tried jacketing the mouse bust I'll ask down the reptile shop tomorrow, see if they've had any luck with her because it's feeding day. And Mopped.. So she could survive on them right? Like her health wouldn't be in too bad shape?

I'm not sure, best to wait until someone with more experience comes along I think. I do know that the nutritional values are different. There was a link on the forum a while ago comparing the content of rats vs mice of different sizes but I can't find it. I have found this one though which is much more basic. http://bamboozoo.weebly.com/the-feeders-whole-vertibrate-prey.html

On that website it says that rat neonates (i.e. pups) have a higher protein level than adult mice. I'd be mostly concerned about vitamins and minerals rather than calories and fat/protein because I would think that young mice would have different levels than adults which are fully developed and have eaten a wider variety of food.

Worth waiting another couple of weeks and let the rep shop keep trying, even if you are missing her.

Okay, thanks you two.. And as they say "absence makes the heart grow fonder" haha
I spoke to the shop yesterday and the girl looking after her is going to take her home over the weekend and try feed her a live pinky. She said something about her natural instincts might kick in and she might take it? Is there a high chance of her taking it?

This might help. Use a rat pup as normal, and when she gets near the end of the pup, try putting a small mouse behind it. With any luck, she will keep eating.

I'm not sure of his age as he was one of my SSPCA rehomers. I'd take a guess that he's not more than 3 years old. I'd say 'he' but has never been probed. No breeding plans as I can't be bothered with the hassle of hatchies.
Another good old plain Carolina Normal.

Ah okay cool fair enough :D how long is he? Plus you have 2 corns right, do you have them in the same viv? If so how well do they get one with each other because I was thinking of getting another Corn but I like didn't want them to like fight and kill each other :S

The last time I checked the sizes for the 3 Corns were around, Big-T 5'1" 1 kg, Woody 3'2" 450 grams and Blaze 3'8" 535 grams.
Vambo Carpet Python is just short of 6' and was 1.5 kg and getting bigger.
The MBK I guess at over 4'5" and 825 grams and growing. Bit temperamental to be accurate.
Likewise with Rattler the Florida King. Somewhere about 4'+ 500+ grams.
Mirkey 4'+ 650 grams

Nope, all my snakes are in separate vivs and will not double them up. I have no intention of breeding them and putting them together is not on for me. Some do but I don't because of the potential stress, bullying, fighting, identifying & isolating illness. Any one of these alone outweighs any reason for sharing other than to breed.

No. Zeezee is coming home, it's the best option to be honest, my mum pointed something out to me today.
What's best for her? Sitting in a small box in the care of complete strangers getting looked at once a day to make sure she's not dead, getting starved and slapped round the face by some food she doesn't want to eat and getting her face ripped open by mice.
Or is living at her ACTUAL home where she is comfy, where she gets one to one attention, where she's get's loved and fed the food she she enjoys the most? Do you see my point? Which is the kindest option.

Seeing her all stitched up broke my heart today :'(

I thought she was going to try on a live pinkie? Cant see a pinkie would of done that much damage.

Do you feed rat pups because there size relivent or is it liturally that is all she will take?

I'm so sorry to hear she got hurt, I don't blame you in the slightest for wanting her back in your own care :(

Personally I would get her back, let her settle in with you properly for a good while eating what she wants. Once she is truely settled, then try other methods to change her to better food, but at the moment she just needs peace and quiet, poor thing xxx

A33272 I'm not sure what is what but it did some damage.... I wouldn't mind meeting this little mouse you know, and it is literally ALL she will take, she won't eat mice or anything with fur, she's really fussy haha. I love her though!!

And Bunny, cheers I reckon it's for the bets to be honest. And yeah that sounds good to me I'll definitely try that... Bunny, I love your corns, they look amazing :D What type are they?
