Hello,
I've got a 4 year old female corn snake. She has not fed for 3 weeks (not normal behavior), so took her to the vet. He checked her over, everything ok, suggested i up the temp and uv in the viv and cut the mouse to let the smell out. Got some fresh mice and did as he suggested. I left it in all night and she still didn't eat.
When i came to take the mouse out, i noticed some light coloured lice type things crawling by it. S#it myself and took the snake out, and cleaned the viv with warm water and fairy liquid. Can't find any trace of them now. What might they have been and have i stopped them for good? How long can i leave the snake not feeding?
Thanks very much
Dan

You need to indentify what the bugs could of been ? It may be springtails ? I've just had a suspected case of it myself with baby snakes, freaked me out I stripped the rubs, washed them out, used kitchen towel, used cardboard tubes for hides, you could use cereal boxes or something ?
I scrubbed the water bowls and baked them in the oven, because if it is springtails, the eggs and bugs grow in the water, look at the surface of the water in sunlight and see if you can see anything that shouldn't be there, that's how I initially spotted mine ? If that's what I had ? as one of my snakes has took a liking to her water bowl, but I did give her a bigger one recently, which is what raised my suspicions in the 1st place.
I've read also that the substrate can carry them, what substrate are you using ? I think mine may have originated from my hamster cages sawdust ? not 100 % on that though.
Try those steps and keep monitoring, I also used a magnifying glass to check my snakes over, I had to hold it between my knees whiles handling them though, but if you have someone to help you, thats better.
As for the feeding ? I've no experience of none feeders, but is your snake going into blue ? or maybe its the mites/springtails that may be upsetting them ? how long have you had the snake ? are the temps ok in the viv.
Someone with more experience may be able to help you, keeps us informed on how things are going

Bathe her and then let her slide through a damp towel. That should help with getting the remnants off :)
