For the past 4ish months spaghetti's pooing habits have changed.
She used to poo arounf 5 days after every feed, since moving onto fluffs and beyond. Recently, however it has become different, she is only pooing once every month, and only when I'm giving her a bath to help her along.
As soon as I can get her into the water for a few minutes the tail goes up and she seems to poo without problem, no obvious straining, no trying without anything coming out, no obvious blockages or lumps are expelled.
She just doesn't seem to poo on her own anymore - I have tried waiting, but by the time it comes to feeding her for the 3rd time wihout any poo being produced I start to worry, so I'm currently bathing her after every second feed (around once a month)
She's just over 3 years old weighs 468g warm end = 27-29.5 cold end = room temp, so around 15-20 she is being fed 1 large or jumbo mouse every 3 weeks sheds every month/two months with no problem or assistance.
I see her drinking reguarly (she loves it when I put fresh water in) and seems to be acting normal for this time of year, not too active, just lounging around, moving from hide to hide at night from time to time etc.
She still eats with her usual gusto and is handled a few times a week.
Do I need to seek the advice of a vet? Could this be her new 'normal'?
Is it safe to give her a meal when she hasn't pooed - is 3 meals to many? Is it OK for her to have a bath/poo after her 2nd feed (I wait until 7 days after so it's digested ready to 'go')?
Thanks, I'm getting really worried that it keeps happenning!

What size mouse and frequency are you feeding these days?
My similar weighted corn is on a medium-large sized mouse every 14 days, he would go to the toilet only once or twice a month and most of the time he will go under the substrate to do it, if you dont stick your head inside the viv and sniff i'd never know it was there, I have even missed some too so every couple of weeks I will rake the substrate and turn it over make sure its all clean. |

I'm going to take her to the vet on Monday - I'm sure this is not normal, I'll tell you all how it goes.
I have a feeling it's going to be an expensive 'it's fine' sort of trip, but better to be safe than sorry!

She is fine :) The vet thought that it may be down to her dehydrating herself through not bathing/going into her waterbowl. As they can absorb water through their tissue which can help with digestion, so even though the was drinking she was not getting moisture this way.
As soon as she said it I realised that this was probably the problem as it had started at around the same time she moved home and I had changed from a tupperware water bowl to a pretend rock one - turns out she's fussy about where she has a bath ;) Lo and behold, swapped back to a large tupperware water bowl, spotted her in/exploring/dipping into it a few times at night and in a few days, there was a poop ahoy!
She also got lots of compliments from the vet on her general condition and pretty colours, so I was a very proud mama!
My only concern now is that with the larger water bowl there may be too much water in the air? She's in a 3 foot exo viv, I'm trying to leave the door open when she's distracted, but I obviously can't do this too much as I worried about her getting out and lost - she can be very sneaky when she wants something!
Does anyone else have problems with the ventilation in these vivs - I somehow feel the 3 back vents aren't enough - has anyone got any experience of adding extra ventilation? Drilling holes perhaps? I don't really want to ruin how the viv looks or take it apart as it's all sealed up - but I also don't want a mouldy snake!
thanks again,

The large water dish won't adversely affect the humidity. I have 1 x 3' with large ExoTerra, 3 x 3' with large 10" square Pyrex dishes. No condensation or excess humidity.
Glad to hear that things checked out OK at the vets. |
