Mosey used to be such a confident eater and the past while she has either had to be left with the mouse or she nudges her nose against it and takes it super gently. She hasn't struck in a while.
I'm just curious if its common for confident eaters to seemingly out of nowhere become shy.
It's not that she isnt eating as she still is. It's just her way about it.

Just so people know, her temps are fine 27-29 at hot side and 21-25 at cold. Bowels are regular, isnt showing any signs of going into blue, still enjoys being handled and is very active and exploring around. Her food is of appropriate size if not even a little smaller but not by much (was on double fluffs but moved back to one as she wasnt to keen).

As i said, just curious if anyone else has had this, confidence to shy.
Thanks.

I think it depends on their mood, sometimes mine strike and sometimes they take it so slowly and gently, usually a strike comes if they have been left a little longer between meals.

This is the longest she has waited for a meal, this is the 8th day since last as she just hasnt been interested. She sort of acknowledges the meal then goes ugh fine and opens her mouth :L

Weird little things Corns! I know they don't have a higher intelligence but I wonder if she has learned that the prey is already dead and that she doesn't need to strike?

What does she do if you try to mimmick the mouse scurrying about?

I always try and make it seem alive whilst giving food. When that doesnt work i just let them sniff it and decide for themselves. Leaving them for a bit if needed. Mo is generally just Meh about the whole thing :L But hey ho atleast she eats.
It wasnt so much a worry as to see if anyone else has the same issue.

So long as she eats I really wouldn't worry - she probably has just worked out that's what being offered is in fact dead (maybe by scent or from the temperature?) and is just being lazy. I feed by just leaving the mouse in the viv rather than offering on tongs and Lovecraft always takes his time sniffing and nipping here and there before he actually picks it up in his mouth and eats it, so he never strikes or coils, but I still call him a reliable eater because he's only ever refused one meal and that was when he was in blue :)

Corno has always eaten the same - just plop the mouse in her tub with her and she will saunter over and eat it, no striking, no messing about, slow and sedate but entirely reliable lol. Ember was tricky when we first got her - realised we needed the mouse to jiggle about a bit then she would strike, but would ignore if we just put it in the tub with her. Then all of a sudden she sort of went off feeding in front of us, and would only eat if we put her in the feeding tub in her viv with the mouse and left her to it (always offered it to her in her tub, then if no luck would put the whole lot back in her viv). Then all of a sudden a couple of months back she decided to start striking and coiling again! I think some of them just like to mess with our heads :P

Kitty has flipped the other way round.. he was always shy about taking food and fed best when deli-cupped.

Not only did he pop out of his hide to 'get it' he also chased it halfway around his viv the last time he fed.. :)

if they can go one way I don't see why they couldn't go the other..

They are indeed funny things.

Fuzzy quite often has a half hearted strike. She'll drag the mouse back into one of the hides as she seems to hate being watched!!

I know what you mean about the 'shy'thing, personaly I think its got a lot to do with individual snakes personality, combined with the knowledge'learned behavior'that the dinner 'aint goin nowhere!!'
Our Georgey Boy has NEVER struck at anything. The most we have ever had from him is an eyewateringly fast sort of Swallow/Glide over his food.
Thumper is a black and white Tornado that will strike and roll and squeeze and roll and squeeze somethimes I think she's going to end up eating a fur covered slushy
