Hi guys, I'm back from rep shop with my new little Anery Not sure on sex yet but I'm gonna say a he. He is absolutely adorrrrrable. I'll get some pics as soon as possible, he needs to settle in at the moment, he was quite lively and nosey in the travelling tub. I allowed him to come out of it himself by placing the tub inside his new home, and he seems a little apprehensive which I expect! I think he's a bit cold at the moment so he's in the warm bit (I've allowed 1/3 of the viv, is that okay?) He's not hiding although he has hides so I think he's gonna be an inquisitive little snake.

I think I'm going to call him Bowie.

omg omg omg I cant believe I forgot a thermostat :O Will he be okay for a night? :( Bad mummy. Also, I cant see any holes to put probe through glass faun, will I be okay taping it directly to the heat mat or is this not accurate/fire hazard?

If it's under the faun, and not in any direct contact with the corn.. It'll be fine for a night
It wouldn't really be an accurate reading if you taped it directly onto the heatmat.. As obviously it will turn off once it gets to the temp.

My faun had a small hole that I could push through and the probe was alright, but you may have to either poke it through another way.. :(

There's a round air vent that can be closed by turning it, one of those, if I could get a stat with a really thin wire for the probe it could go through there. Does anyone know if these exsist?

Also I'm gonna get a digi thermometer, so I'd keep this on warm side and use the dial one for cold? I originally was gonna say I'll put the digi in the cold side as the thermostat will keep check, but I guess it needs to be there incase the temperature drops

My faun is glass though, it has a verrrrrrrry thin wire mesh at the top, like pin head size that I might be able to poke it through? Is there no way to detach the probe from the stat so I can reattach it when the probes already in?

Doubtful that it'll get out of the space left between the probe wire? Thanks for your help a33272 :)

and also if the mesh is quiet easy to stretch open you could just push it back around the wire anyway

Awesome, thanks. Also have to take other necesscary precautions and add a lock to the door his Viv is in. My cat knows how to open doors and I think he's gonna be p'oed with the attention snake is getting. And also his room has been stolen now he has no choice of the whole of upstairs but only his mummy's room to sleep in lol.

Ive just been to check on him and he's out and about, taking a drink, in and out of hides and also messing his lovely neat substrate up by burrowing and playing hide and seek by popping his head out in a complete different part of the viv!! I'm in love.

Yeah I have, it's about an inch thick, just over, but I've made sure the water bowl is touching the bottom of the viv as I dont want him getting squished! My Mums currently stressing about the heat mat being on top of a wooden surface, it'll be fine right? Also theres about a 1cm gap where the viv is lifted above the heatmat as I know they can sometimes crack glass. Substrate at warm end is about 27 an remaining consistent so im quite happy, definetely going to pick up a stat tomorrow though. And more hides! and plants! Woo :) I was dissapointed with the 'starter kit' I got. It came with a 'natural log' which I figured would be suitable but it literally musta been natural because I saw spiders webs inside it. That got chucked anyway, he'll have to do with a loo roll for now lol.

my heat mat is inside my woodern viv so shouldnt be a problem well once you got it on a stat that is, cant see u would have a problem putting ya glass faun directly ontop of it once ya got it on a stat as it will be no hotter than if ya had tropical fish in it anyway!! ya say its 27 is that heated to 27 or is that room temp?? once u got a stat ya want the mat in contact with bottom of faun otherwise it will be working alot harder as it will be having to heat the air gap up aswell mats work better when in contact with the surface

Oh hmm... Okay well, you mean if I didnt have a thermastat I'd run the risk of it cracking if it went a lot higher? Can anyone else verify this for me just to make sure? Thanks though a33272, for all ya help.

Yeh, the heat from the mats really won't be enough to crack any glass.. So don't worry :P

even the mat wouldnt cause a sudden enough change to crack it, i mean as in a ice cold glass sudden being covered in boil water kind of change like i said a tropical fish tank is about the 30c mark so why will a heat mat at 30c be any differnt

Okay np, I'm just panicing I know, but I want everything to be okay. Its actually at 30 right now but I realised my central heating is on, so I've turned the radiator way down in that room. It's not a bedroom or anything so it doesnt need to stay warm, and then I can regulate the room temp without the viv heating. Weird how it fluctuated from like 27-30 quite fast :|

Currently he is completely submurged in the substrate!!!!

like i said with that ya faun not being in contact with ya mat ya temp is more likely to be simpiler to room temp, you will notice a differance when ya put ya mat on a stat an drop the faun on top of it. my house is only about 20c when i take my tub off mat within mins i can see the temp start to drop an like wise when i put it back on
