On 8 July my hatchling, born on 16 May, weighed 11g and yesterday weighed 13g. She is feeding well on a pink every five days or so and drinking well too. I was surprised at how little weight she had gained - should I be?

As long as she is feeding, shedding and pooing I wouldn't worry too much about weight. They all grow at different rates and it is easy to get hung up on weight and make your self worry for no reason :-)

Thank you for your reply. Yes, she's doing all those essential things and I suppose I was surprised rather than worried because she seems to be very healthy and content.

What you've said is what's most important, that she's healthy and content . Lupi lou is right that she's ok as long as she's doing everything she should. Remember that she's growing, even if it's not majorly noticeable, so she'll be using all the nutrition in the pinkie for that. You tend to see bigger weight gains when you move onto older mice.

Do you know the 'bump' guide? Not sure if you've read this yet but this thread on feeding should be helpful - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27833

Thanks Kellog. Yes, I'm aware of the bump guide and a pinkie is still quite noticeable for a while. I might consider offering her two pinkies in a while, but for now I shall just see how it goes.

I don't think there are many threads on the forum I haven't read - they answer nearly all my queries, hence my relative inactivity!

They tend to put weight on very slowly, when they are just hatchies on pinkies. Wait when she's on fluffs, she'll start piling the weight on then. :-)

13g isn't too bad, I bought Bazilishka in April 2011. She was late CB 10, strike feeder. I haven't managed to weigh her till May, and she was 13g then.

yep agreed. Don't hang yourself up on weight..as long as shes feeding and pooping all is well and you'll see the weight gains slowly at first but then considerably bigger as you increase the mouse size which obviously all makes sense :-) Mines a late cb12, i got her in dec 12 i'll put up her weight gain record just to show you (* is where i upped the mouse size)

12/1/13 = 11g
14/2/13 = 13g
20/3/13 = 15g
18/4/13 = 18g
16/5/13 = 21g* (2 x pinks from 2/5)
2/6/13 = 26g* (fuzz)
22/6/13 = 40g
11/8/13 = 49g
2/9/13 = 60g* (2 x fuzz)
21/10/13 = 85g* (smalls)
6/12/13 = 121g
4/1/14 = 139g
5/2/14 = 152g
8/3/14 = 166g* (2 x smalls)
2/4/14 = 185g* (med)
12/6/14 = 236g
11/7/14 = 261g* (large)
23/8/14 = 313g

just to add she also shed 9 times in her first year.
