Thanks everyone!! I was going to try the frontline method but what is the fairy liquid one?? I've only had him for 2 weeks now and he is my only snake so I want to take good care of him. I haven't seen any signs since this post but I think I'll do a big clean just to be sure. He probably got them from the pet shop I guess :( gosh it's soo annoying :( everything was going so well... |

dont panic about it, with only one snake its gonna be an easy fix. the fairy and water method is quite easy, just mix some fairy with warm water and bathe the snake for half hour or so. in the meantime you can clean the viv and just use a hide, water bowl and paper towels. repeat every other day and you will be clear in no time. Mites life cycle is between 16 and 60 days, depending on temps, but they need to feed daily, so the bathing will kill them as they feed. Having no other snakes will mean the mites wont go far from their food, but they can travel upto 50 -60 feet in a day, which may not sound like a long way, but bearing in mind their size, its quite impressive. if you can only see a few, then its likely that its not got to 'infestation' levels, but more of an annoyance. |

Oh gosh Alice is in a very bad mood today, his eyes are very blue too! Shall I wait until he sheds? I don't want to disturb his shedding :S |

Lol no worries, back to my question though, Alice is in blue at the moment so shall I wait for him to shed before I start treating him? He's very moody today so not sure if I should bother him? Tash :) |

no, snake mites are exactly that. it has been known, or strongly suspected that they can feed off other animals, such as rodents or similar, but not through choice, only desperation. |

Its hard not to worry when they are your babies though isn't it,and he'll be your Billion Dollar Baby Loki isn't regular, when he was on pinkies it would be about 2/3 days after feeding that he'd do his business, sometimes he'd do another before his next feed and sometimes it would be over a week. He didn't go after his last feed so there'll be 2 feeds worth next time. Last time that happened it was on me too so I have a bad feeling lol!! Hope you get Alice sorted with the mite problem. |
