Hey everyone, first post here really, ive been looking after my mams corn snake whilst shes been away, it came in its own baby tank, however shes took it back and now i really miss her, i was thinking about getting my own, here is how large my mams one is;

Anyway, i saw one in the pet store about the same age, my grilfriends dad was getting rid of a brand new tank, it looks like the following ;
After looking at the video above, if i get a snake that small and put it in that specific enclosure (pic related above) would it be a bad idea? i mean obviously the snake is smaller etc but would it affect the snake a lot?
Also i saw another corn snake, it was rather big at least 4 years i should think - would it be more wise to get a larger one?
If i do get a larger snake, wont it be more prone to disliking me? and disliking being handled and not be used to me etc? or would that grow on the snake over time?

It is hard to judge the size of that tank but it may be too big for a baby, get a piece of MDF and make a partition to reduce the size.
As the snake grows and needs more room remove the partition. |

| Large or small in my opinion makes very little difference as to whether the snake would like you or not. If the snake has been well handled and treated with kindness then it should be fine. Ask the shop/current owner to get the snake out for you and see how it reacts to being removed from its enclosure and being handled. Hold the snake yourself and see how you feel. What ever snake you decide to get make sure you do your research into the correct set up for it and get the tank all up and running before you take your snake home. Hatchies do best in a small box (like a lunch box with holes in it for ventilation) where as an adult corn would be fine in a tank like in the picture as long as its not really small. My adults live in 3ft x 15" x 18" wooden vivs. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember reading that all glass tanks can be problem when it comes to getting the temperature correct and maintaining the temperature. |

I have also heard that glass tanks can be difficult to regulate temperatures, and don't have the best airflow but provided you have all the right gear and plenty of hides and cover it wouldn't be imposible to convert. Also with glass enclosures, snakes can feel very exposed so you might/should cover three of the sides with a backing picture or the really cool looking polystyrene fake background scenes you can pick up, it will also help insulate the tank and help with heating.
What are the dimensions of that tank? Going off the strip thermometer on it, that tank about 3 feet wide and very deep. If I was you I'd sell that tank to someone who can use it for its purpose (its a lovely looking aquarium, someone would give you a fair price for it) and use the money to buy yourself a 2 foot vivarium or a starter faunarium. |

I'll agree with that. That tank could probably be sold as an aquarium for about 50 quid. I'm new to snakes but was worried about my little baby in a 2ft viv!  |
