Cut them neatly and if needed use a nail file to just file off any rough bits.

Ok will give that a try. Thanks

Edit: they are no bigger than my palms these bowls. Will file the edges and remove the tape. I saw in another thread someone using tape otherwise I wouldn't have used it.

Snakes like a cramped hide so as long as they aren't sat in their hide like a pea in a drum it will be fine.

I've seen a few people using tape too, I just dont think its worth the risk when there are other ways of achieving the same result.

Had an idea this morning. Going to take the tape off and melt the rough edges, then file it down. This should make it nice and smooth. Thanks for the advice.

Still waiting for my other products to be dispatched tho

That looks very similar to the hides I made for my housies. They were kids cups from Asda (good old Asda price eh!)
Not sure if you can make it out,but hopefully you can see the arch way. I used a craft knife to cut out the arch and then used the knife to chamfer (not sure if thats spelt right) off the rough edges. Worked a treat and the housies love them.

ha ha! Same ones except mine were bowls not cups. I used a hack saw. I think i will try file them down first and see how it goes. I have 3 other untouched bowls in case of errors. However still in need of a snake first!

I admire the fact your doing your research and getting the setup sorted first before getting a snake, lots don't (I got it a bit wrong first time round). Its not long now though and you will see the benefit of the work your putting in now.

I know! I can officially start getting excited now!

EDIT: Firstly i've requested that a Snake at AC Snakes be put on hold til Sunday so that if i dont find what i am looking for up here i can go collect next Saturday. So if anyone in my area wants a trip down to look at snakes you're welcome to join me.

Secondly, some more questions.

Day/Night Temp: Do i need to worry about this or is a steady 28-29 enough? I've seen it mentioned a few times thats all?

Hides: Do i need to worry about the weight of them. They feel light and worried the'll be toppled while i am out thus stressing the snake.

EDIT 2: WOOHOO! Stuff has arrived! Only need to go to Ikea on Saturday for the stand! and then get the snake!

1. Spot Cleaning - I read on a care sheet (one of many i have read), and it said you could use babywipes (fragrance free) for spot cleans. Stating if its safe for babies its safe for reptiles. Is this true, or should i just stick to the reptile cleaning spray mentioned earlier??
You shouldn't use baby wipes and you don't need rep cleaner for spot cleaning, only the monthly clean. Just use something like a popper scopper or a dog poo bag for spot cleaning.

You don't need to change the day and night temps :P weight of hides does not matter, you may just find light ones get dragged a bit round the viv but this can happen with heavy ones with detrimed snkaes anyway!

But no, a corn snake is definitely not going to wake you up in the middle of the night!
We even had one of ours fall from the top of its viv (mildly hilarious) and we only saw it, didn't hear it, because of the aspen.

You defiantly hear a full grown corn falling and being all horny at night!

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

To much open space? I have a spacer if it needs to be smaller. Got some ikea LED lights.

EDIT: Temp fluctuating nicely between 28.5 & 29.5. Is this ok?

Is 31c to high? I left the heat mat running over might ready for today's arrival. Check the temp this morning and it was 31c. Even tho my thermostat is set at 26c. I've turned it down a little. But temp dropped to 27. Heat mat just kicked back in, so waiting to see new temp. Am i just being paranoid?

31 is a bit hot... what type of mat stat is it? Is there anything heavy on the probes to weigh them down a bit for an accurate reading?

It's a habi stat Matt Stat. I've turned it down a bit now. Stat reads 26, thermometer reads 28 (pics below). Stat turns mat off at 29.4. Probes are weigh down. Sucker pad holding it low, wife's hair bobble weighing it down and holding them together. Cold ends reads 21-22c

Looks like you have a nice setup there - did you get a snake today then?

I am curious... how often do you change the snake's water? If you go away for a long weekend is it OK to leave it and for how long?

Yeah i got it today! He/she is beautiful!

I saw in the pet shop today you get get those feeders that release water as it's drank. Also was told that you can take them to reptile stores which will look after them for a few. Usually about £2 a day.

EDIT: Had our first panic. Thought it had got out. Amazing where they can get themselves. Had itself balanced on the little lip between the lid and base of the Faun. Can sense a sleepless night!!
