I know you bought it, but should you not return it to the shop and choose another snake |

so are you keeping this snake or are they asking you to return it?
If you are to return it then don't panic about it not feeding - thats what the shop are there for..
if you are allowed to keep it then theres loads of things you can try with non feeders.
*try to minimise handling *warm up using a hairdryer and aim the scent over the snake - worked for me after 7months of not feeding! *boiling the pinkie and then leaving to cool - offer it warm but not boiling :) *using the tip of s knife poke a small hole in the pinkies head - maybe squeeze a small amount of fluids out to really entice the snake - not for the squimish! *put pinkie and snake in a small tub and cover.. leave alone for at least an hour - maybe put the tub in the rub/faun that snakey normally lives in *dip pinkie in tuna brine *dip pinkie head in marmite
The last one was suggested to me by a breeder that swears by it.. it didn't work for me but you never know! Thats everything I can think of right now.. |

also don't rush to try everything at once.. attempt once every 5 days and if one thing doesnt work then the next time try something else
one of mine went 7months before eating totally on her own - for the last 3months of the fast I was assist/force feeding her which was a super stressful time for both me and her..I really wouldn't recommend doing it to anyone! |

Mine won't eat if the lights are on at all. Frustrating as I'd love to get some photos of him feeding but I understand the instinctual desire for them to eat in the dark.
Fingers crossed for you |

OMG!! What a bad mistake to make on their part. Really hope you get the little fella feeding soon though. If you describe the things you've tried,I'm sure you'll get a lot of help. I have a hatchie that I took on as a non feeder (although she'd only missed her first feed). She's a funny little snake, seems to have a routine of feeding, then refusing, then feeding etc. After reading some of the tips on her I've used the hairdryer and brained her pinkies and then put her in a small tub with the brained pink in the dark for feeding. She actually took her first non brained pink tonight a lot sooner tha I expected so don't give up. I've seen the results of HannahB's hard work and I'm sure theres a thread on here somewhere. |

Out of curiosity, where did you buy it from? And where are you as well? |

Sorry, just to clarify, did you defrost the mouse in boiling water or just dip it in to put some warmth in it?
The reason I ask is that when some organic products (proteins especially) go over a certain temperature they cook, flavours and smells change and this may not be attractive to your snake. |

Well no, you need to make sure it's defrosted. Pop it in a cup with some lukewarm water, and leave it for an hour. Take it out afterward and roll it about a bit, to make sure the belly is all squishy and defrosted. I then like to have a pot of hot water, which I then dip the heads in, dry on kitchen roll, and then offer. It's not hot bu then, but it is nice and warm :) |

You wont get in trouble for saying where it was from. The reason I was asking is because I'm about 4 miles outside Bournemouth and fairly regularly travel about a lot and if it's a reptile shop that I know then I'd be happy to try to organise an exchange for you from the reptile shop. It's not easy for someone new to the hobby to have a snake that is a non-feeder straight from the onset. If you're still unsure about posting where it was from etc, them email me. My email address is in my profile. |

just a question how big is its "cage"? when i got my first hatchling it didnt feed either tried alot of things and the best thing to do was to reduce the size of the RUB/BOX/CAGE it was in to something like what they are kept in at reptile stores it worked and slowly i am increasing the size.
Too much space can stress them out im told (im no expert) but you might want to try that aswell.
Good luck with it and hopefully it will start eating |
