i did.
If it's my two pence; My viv bound snake is more aggressive than the rub one.
Plus; I've NEVER had an escapee from a RUB. The gap would be nothing to worry about proving you have the clips done up.

The wild is a mssive difference to being kept as pets. In the wild, they would not encounter humans o a daily basis, the comforts of human living such as TV, music and their other pets, all of which are a threat to them. In the wild they don't move for ages as if they move, they chance being someones lunch. I would love to know where you got the info that wild cornsnake grow bigger than captive snake too as I have never heard of this, any that are apprently bigger in the wild also may not be pure corn, they cross with many other ratsnakes. Plus if you think about how regularly captive snakes get fed.
I also don't think you need to replicate their surrounds really, long as they have something to drink, eat sleep, get warm they are fine. I'm certainly not going to expose my snakes to damp soggy wood, leaves, grit to try and make their surroundings more natural when they seem more than fine with a nice dayglow orange tube.
The lizards or snake that you see pictures of in open spaces are not always their on their own accord. People search for these animals to take photos of for their own accord and for research and then go to more open places to photograph as they tend to have better lighting conditions and this makes the background less noisy. |

It seems my valid question about what do have in your rubs, for some ideas has turned in to a debate on rubs vs vivs...........
Implying that unless I am prepared to keep animals/snakes in small cages or RUBS then I should not keep them at all?
I simply disagree with people keeping them in small cages/RUBS simply to make life easier or cheaper for themselves. Its impossible to say that a snake is happier in a RUB to a Viv or vice versa. |

I came to the forum for advice, not opinions.
I personally dont thinks animals care what they are housed in, as long as all the basic needs are met.
I chose rubs on the basis of what feedback I got on housing, and that my toddler cannot get in to them and my cats cannot pester them.

Happy to give your opinion but don't want others opinions..... sounds familiar.
Well here is another opinion, RUBS have their place, ideal for use for hatchlings/yearlings but do you really feel it would be ok to house permanently a 5ft corn in a 33/50 ltr RUB?
Oh, and its unlikely you or anyone else will ever post about RUB pics without getting peoples opinions on them. |

It is very easy to tell though, you look for signs of stress.
As I said, one of my adult snakes was "happier" in what people are calling a small RUB rather than a nice kitted out viv. Another one of my adults I'd feel a bit guilty keeping him in a RUB but that's because he is a fatty lol.
I put massive books ontop of my tub lids to weigh them down, think tehre is picture of someone punching holes and using curtain clips somewhere.
I fail to see how keeping in a RUB is any different than a 2ft glass fish tank or exoterra, which people keep their snakes in other than plastic is easier to keep temps right. I've seen adult corns and kings in 2ft vivs before and looked fine and those vivs are smaller than some RUBs. All depends on the amount of decor I guess and if you have a whopper of a snake or a small one. |

Ive got shadow my royal in one of those 9 litre RUBS and in comparison to the above pictures it looks tiny lmao but he has a big bowl and a big hide as far as i can tell hes "happy" hes eating and pooping ok and hes in full blue atm so if theres any other way to measure happiness in a snake id sure love to know lol |

I am wondering why you are here giving your opinion on rubs when I asked people to post pics of their rubs for some ideas!? if you don't have one then there was no need to even respond to my question.

The signs of stress may not necessarily be because it is housed in a RUB or a Viv could be many factors to take in account before blaming the RUB or Viv. The snakes well being should always come first obviously, and if keeping in a RUB is what is best for that individual then so be it. But there are loads of snakes kept in RUBS just because it is cheaper or easier, these snakes don't get the chance of trying a viv. Just because a snake is eating it does not mean it is happy. |

Id happily post pics of my rubs but most are just the same as everyone elses basic setups but my rubs are transitional all the snakes are going into vivs eventually including the royal whose viv im picking up this week i have to make some room and some adjustments to the viv first though because i plan to use a bulb not a heat mat |

Oh so I can not give my opinion on here?
And if you want a pic here you go Franks first home a faunarium

His current home a 2ft x 18" viv, he is now 18 months old

In beginning of march he will be moving into his, hopefully, final viv a 3ft x 18". |

Just because you have an opinion dosen't mean you have to let everyone know about it. The original question was about what peoples RUBs were like, and not about RUBs vs Vivs.
Again, this is down to personal preference, and there isn't a definite answer. And besides, if everyone done the same thing, no-one would learn anything!
My hatchies are going from their fauns to vivs, but if they show signs of stress, they will be going back to their fauns, which will then be placed it the vivs until they get a feel of things.
