How do you get those temps? Durin the day to get the 29C I have to have mat and bulb. At night mat alone only gives 19/20c |

I initially didn't think the mat was working. I have the thermometer probe under the substrate over the mat. The mat is under neath the wooden vivarium. During the day it's usually 28/29c. This morning at bout 7am it was 19c. ATM it's showing 30.1 |

mat will do more damage to the viv outside it, the heat that will build up is mental with very little heat getting into the viv. Mat should be inside the wooden viv with a sprinkling of substrate over it |

heat mat NEEDS to be inside a wooden viv due to wood being a effective insulator. |

I didn't know this. I was told would be fine underneath the viv. Would it not get too hot inside the viv? With the probe on the wood base ATM it's gone up to 35c

needs a thermostat to regulate the temp, same as your heatlamp |

What happens if he goes under the heatmat once I move it inside the viv?! As he likes to tunnel through the aspen shavings. |

Absolutely do not put the heat mat uner the wooden viv, this happens;

My friend was told it was fine under a wooden viv. The bottom of the viv had to be replaced, it burned clean through, and through the carpet and into the floorboards (the viv was ont he floor). Her snake escaped with no injuries but was very lucky.

I wouldn't advise using anything sticky in case the snake gets stuck to it. Diego never burrows under his mat so it's just under the substrate, but Luna likes to get under hers and poop under it, so I cut a piece of cardboard to the size of her vivs floor and put it in on top of the mat, it's thin enough not to block heat and she can't get under it. Aleron has a piece of glass on top of his, I took it from a picture frame, and it's held to the floor with bathroom silicone.
I would advise moving the heatmat inside the viv asap, it's a serious fire hazard. If you can't move it in now, then I would suggest turning it off and just not feeding your snake tonight if you were supposed to. The may being off won't harm him for a day but it will keep you safer. |

I used to use hot glue to stick my mat down (just a little blob in each corner) but I got annoyed every time I cleaned it out so now it is just the hide sat on top. Occasionally they will go under the mat but it doesn't bother them (or me) just make sure your thermostat probe is glued (or well fixed) to the mat so they can't move it off it. |

Great thanks. What could I use to stick the probe to the heatmat? I've put him inside his faun until I can sort this heatmat issue out with the viv! |

I use a hot glue gun. If you don't have one or can't borrow one they aren't too expensive and worth the investment as you find lots of uses for it |

Yeah I have a hot glue gun for sweet trees. Maybe a stupid question. Do you glue the metal probe itself or the wire to a spot on the heat mat? |
