| Kitty has just shed and it is in 2 pieces, the head section (eye caps in tact) and the body BUT I don't think that the tail has come away as it is "open" both ends. She was fed yesterday. What is more important - being left for 48 hours after a feed before being handled OR checking for and trying to help get rid of tail section? Can I leave the tail bit (if it is retained) until tomorrow evening? Thanks |

I wouldn't want to handle her so soon after a feed but other people's choice may be different to mine. If she is handled too soon after a meal there is a chance she could regurgitate. Personally I don't think that retaining a little bit of shed for one day is too harmful to a snake, I think a regurge could be more harmful than that.
You could put some moist sphagnum moss in her hides which may help her to remove the rest of the shed herself in the meantime.  |

| As Moppet said, leaving her to digest is probably more important. One or two extra days of stuck shed won't make huge difference, and you can always put in a moss hide, or gently mist the warm side of the viv. Are you sure the shed is still on her, and not hidden somewhere in the tank, in the substrate, under the substrate, glued to the inside of a hide, or glued to the side / roof of the viv? |

| Thanks, both. No, I'm not sure, it could be in there, I just don't want to fiddle too much in her faun (she's very new to me) so soon after feeding her. I'm just pleased that she's shed as she was making clicking noises and I was worried she'd got a resp problem. I'm probably just being neurotic, I've waited a long time for a snake and it's all very new to me. |

| Thanks everyone. Kitty update - got her out this evening and found that she'd only shed to about half way down her body (can't believe she's sooooo long!). Got damp kitchen towel and held her a little tightly whilst she moved through my hand, after a while she started to really flex as she ran through and all but the tail end came away in one big piece. It took a while of her moving through damp towel until eventually it was all off (she was starting to be a tad fed-up i think). But, in any case all done now and she's exploring her faun now and is much happier. |
